Mine touches the fin. I just installed on side, then pulled the bar over to the mounting holes and it worked out. I don't use XM so I didn't care if it interfered with reception. Some guys just drill a new hole so they can mount behind the fin. All up to your preference.

Is it me or some of these screws break too easily? I had about 5 that I was screwing into the side and they went halfway in and broke. How is everyone extracting the broken screws? Grabbing them with a pliers just rounds them off. I have a cabrac and a toprac

Using hand tools or battery operated?

If there is a piece sticking out how about vice grips, if that doesn't work then you will need dieting like the rescue bit to drill out the center and possibly re tap.

I was using both.....battery operated and hand tool. I will try the vise grips later, thanks. I also have rescue bits, somewhere around here. Thanks.

Sounds like your bolts and holes are not the same type of threads, the bolt is too long for the hole, or you are cross threading really bad. Are you having trouble with the bolts that connect the rack to the roof or the bolts that connect the crossbars to the rack?

Never mind. I see that it's the side and only some. You should be able to finger tighten them all the way. Sounds like the hole isn't tapped all the way or there is some junk in the threads.

I was never able to finger tighten any of them. Some went in easier than others. The ones that refused to go in just stopped moving and when I used the battery operated driver they snapped.

You can try to use a dremel to cut a slot on the end so a flathead screw driver can grab into.

Also, why power tools for these bolts? I know they speed things up, but there's so little room to wiggle with these attachments.

I assembled it by myself. The screws were not going in by hand so I started using the power driver.
