As mentioned above, to be safe, add fluid and redo the test.

That's the way mine was and I put in about 9 oz. with some draining back out on the next test/check. Ended up adding about 4-5 oz.

I'm sure this has been asked, but is it the same procedure for 2016's also?

Go to AMSOIL Website ,my 2013 is a 3.2 Qts replacement from pan drain, runs great on Amsoil Signature Serries Low Viscosity Blue cap top WS Meets specs! I also have compensated 10 ozs of Lubegard Platinum to my refill by holding back on 10 oz of the 3.2 Qts ATF as not to overfill ! Awsome and smooth shift and high protection !

I doubt there are any $20 stand alone OBD readers that will display tranny temps. If there is a reader that does this I would love to see more information posted in this thread. The readers in the $20 range probably only read codes and that's it. There are wifi/Bluetooth readers in the $20 range that you can pair with a smartphone app that will read tranny temps. Torque does this on Android and OBD Fusion will do it on iPhone.

I suspect you need to provide PIDs for these devices. From all I've read at TW and elsewhere there seems to be a lot of different thoughts as to which set of PID parms work for a 2nd Gen Tacoma. For this reason, I use the pin 4/pin 13 jumper technique.

I did the check correctly, took it to the dealer after calling Toyota corporate first and made a case with a case number and they did the 60,000 mile tune up. It was 5-6 ounces low. At least that's what they said could have been lower. Since I had the super charger installed before it was bought they put iridium plugs in it that are good up to 100,000 miles.... sweeeettttt because the labor to get my super charger off was going to be 250 more :anonymous:. With everything fill up rear diff, front diff, transfer case, and engine oil it runs really smooth and the tranny topped off going to have the transmission fluid changed there also let everyone know how that goes.

this sucks that Toyota would build a truck that you can not check your trans level.
I know other manufacturers are doing this with cars also, but it is crazy.
people need the ability to not only check their trans level, but also to change it every 30K miles.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion so I can see why some people do not like this type of sealed transmission. I actually like the system for checking ATF level on these Tacoma's. I feel like I am able to be very precise with the ATF level using the overflow plug at the proper temperature. I am OCD on fluid levels so the Tacoma system is perfect for me. Dipsticks are always a pain for me to read because I am never sure if the film at the end of the stick was from the pan level or is a drip from some place else.

Just did this on my '11 with 63k. Went easier than expected. Bought a drill pump off Amazon for ~$15 that worked amazingly. I used maxlife atf in mine and so far so good. BIG thanks to op and TW!

Yeah that's the big one rated at 750 gph. The one I used is rated at 300 gph. I want to say it took mine around 30 seconds to pump 3 qts at a medium speed on my cordless drill.
