I am looking at this truck for my wife.

    2008
    131k
    4x4
    sr5
    1 owner.

It has a clean carfax but he told me he hit and deer and black ice and the front end has been fixed twice. The truck looks great.

It has been undercoated by toyota.

Just a bunch of old crap
    What are they asking?

What exactly was "fixed" on the front end?

He is asking 12.5. I'm not sure what he replaced. He said it was all cosmetic.

12.5k? Buy it. I was gonna say 15k.

Offer 12k and walk with a sweet new truck.

I will be in town tomorrow . I've had my dad check it out so far for me as it is right down the road from his house. I thought 14 or so was more in line wanted to get a second opinion.

12.5K seems like a pretty solid deal. Kudos to the seller for being up front with the accident, but only unknown is to what extent. The clean carfax seems to speak to that it wasnt that serious an accident as to have an insurance claim submitted. Have you looked at the frame a bit more closely? They may have coated it but that coating might hide some serious rust (Just playing devils advocate, the frame could be fine)

I'm right with you as that is my main concern. Its a salt state truck. My dad poked around a bit and said it seemed fine but I plan to check by the cat first thing.

Unless there are some serious holes in the frame , I wouldn't sweat it. I would go over those sections in the third pic where the metal is wavy( obviously rust) and see how it holds up to a few pokes.

thanks everyone. I will be looking first thing in the morning. It would be a good work truck for me and give my wife my 14 I've already put 60k on.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

This would be a great deal for an 08 with this many miles as long as the rust isn't to bad. I would just do some poking around for sure to make sure there are no weak points. Overall looks and sounds like a good buy though. Just and idea I got my 2008 with 65K in Colorado (rust free) for $24,000 after taxes and financing from a dealer with a 2 year warranty. Not to mention they sell for 15-20% more in the state. Seems like a reasonable deal. If he wants 12.5 I would go in with $11k cash and flash that in his face to see if those eyes light up.

I have to agree with digitalbra and say that is a complete crap job on the undercoating though. You need to take a serious look at the frame and I would just pay someone that you trust to inspect the whole truck. If Toyota did it I would have expected a far better spray job then what I'm seeing in the pictures.

Take down the VIN and see if the frame is up for inspection at Toyota. You could buy the truck and end up getting a new factory frame out of the deal as long as it doesn't pass the tap test.

IF the frame were indeed sprayed by Toyota it would also be in the maintenance history on toyota.com/owners. Register the vin, check the records. If it's not there call a dealership and ask. Some of my records didn't show when I registered my vin, but when I called the dealer they could see everything back to mile 5.

Registering my vin also saved me the hassle of a timing belt. Previous owner "didn't know" if he had it replaced, he just knew he had it serviced at the dealer. He had actually had it replaced like 6 months prior.
