I will test this tomorrow. I will be heading up to the mountains and seeing how far up the blue ridge pkwy I can go from Ga. Truthfully I would rather be on the Dragons Back that is a fun quick road.

I find it kicks in around 3100, almost the exact spot that my Outback Turbo does.

I've said it before but that power band feeling at 3400 rpm feels like a two-stroke dirt bike.

Has anyone noticed a strange lag if you are around 1750 rpm and floor the throttle? It almost feel like power is cut for a split second before it starts to accelerate. Funny thing is I can not duplicate every time.

I get that same lag from time to time.

I have noticed it also. It almost seems like the drive by wire on the throttle does not catch up to pedal position for a sec.

I thought I heard the direct injection kick in after 50%+ throttle (heavy engine load) and at the same rpm~ 1750. My BRZ did this for power and fuel economy. This is also a Toyota direct/port system. In the Subaru/toy it sounds like constant whoosh but quieter than a turbo, and at stop lights it sounded like a quiet diesel b/c of direct injection. They found it to be fuel efficient and cool the engine at a standstill. I am aware these are different vehicles but based on talking about engine load and port/direct they feel about the same based on throttle position. Just a theory though I have no proof, just my butt dyno.

Yeah I do not listen to the radio at all. I like to hear everything around me. Driving around a big brown package truck all day makes you tuned to driving and safety.

Yeah same here, doesn't lag all the time.

Quick rev matching can be a soup sammich with the numb throttle response sometimes.. Meh, still love the MT.

So I assume this lag is normal??? Seems like lots of us have it. I wonder if it is something to do with the programming of Otto Vs Atkinson or ????.

I thought the time between the peddle and throttle were less than half a sec.

Side note the clutch seems to be paired with the hydro assist on off road models. Have any of you felt the slight buzz in the clutch pedal like the brake?

When I drove some today I and I was stopped on a hill. I did notice a click sound duplicated three times when I went from idle to throttle. Could be switching over from Atkinson to Otto then? I thought I would not be as noticeable. That's why I thought it was direct (idle) to port (throttle).

I wish Toyota told all the tid bits of info to those who care and are curious...

I got stuck at a stop sign for a little yesterday, I want to see if anyone else has experienced this. This has maybe been the 3rd time this has happened (completely random as to when, but usually from neutral to first).

I am approaching a stop sign (2nd gear), go to neutral to slow down and make my complete stop. Once fully stopped, clutch all the way in, move shifter to fir...wait it only went half way. Push harder, no budge, pull back down to neutral, try going up to first again. Only makes it half way again before stopping. Like it hits a stop and can't go any further. I had to do the neutral to first rowing 5 or 6 times before it finally went all the way into gear.

This has happened once before going from 4th to 5th, which sucks when you are on the highway.

I can not reproduce the issue, it is completely random. Is this just a breaking in issue?

This is just a minor issue for me, I am only looking to see if anyone else has experienced this.

I had it happen from neutral to first on my first drive after purchase. I thought I didn't push the clutch in enough. 500 miles later and it hasn't happened again.

You don't want to force it into 1st gear. Pump the clutch once or twice, then try again. Another thing that I've done is hold the shifter in 1st with light pressure and slowly release the clutch and it slip right in.

Ha. Coming from a BMW Boxer, I should have this transmission mastered in no time. On BMW motorcycles, you have to preload the shifter a bit as you engage clutch. Once you do that it shifts like butter.

I can't tell you if it's a breaking in issue, but it does happen to me once in a while.
Shifter back to neutral, clutch out, clutch in then try for first again usually works.

Same here (from Ga). I ordered last year and got it last week. Loving it so far but hope it gets better gas mileage. Even babying this past week yielded 15.9mpg with mixed use.

Thanks for all the responses about not going into 1st right away, good to hear I'm not the only one. I'll try clutch out clutch in while in neutral if it happens again.

Yeah around town on the streets the gas mileage isn't phenomenal, but on my drive to work (30 miles highway) I have seen 21+.

If you get some good stretches of road around town, you can try to use 5th more to increase mpg's. I didn't realize at first you could go as slow as you can in 5th.

Try 35-45 in 6th, you'll pull 35+mpg at constant throttle on flats

Got my Canadian shortbed with a stick today, loving it so far, takes a bit of getting used to coming from an Impreza that's for sure!

At what RPM do you shift from 1st to 2nd? I have been trying many diff rpm, but 3k seems to work well. Is it ok to be shifting at higher rpms all the time?I really like the way the truck pulls hard in 2nd and 3rd. Can someone explain to me why iam having so much fun driving my new truck? I knew i would like it, but i wasn't expecting it to be a race car!! Imagine a Supercharger!!!
