Ray was asking me about offroad miles driven over the course of the season after breaking 1,000 last year.

I've got about 120 miles on the new diffs so far, with roughly half that in 4wd. Been taking the scenic way home from work.

I'm at almost 300 miles. 20 mile highway trip at 70+mph the diff temp was at 160°. I've never paid this much attention to after 1st test drive temperatures because all of my other trucks with regears were trailer queens. I'm curious to see what a stock diff runs for temperatures.

Any long runs over 65mph? 15mile trips up to 50mph seem to be running around 100°

No. That was after a 45 minute casual drive on a dirt county road in 4x4, ending with like 2 miles of 65mph.

My trips to work are about 15 minutes, with varying speed between 50 and 25. Runs right about 100°. Even in 4x4, the front diff hardly heats up, is that expected?

Save your pennies. I've been waiting for these mods for a long time.

No. Just a regular welder, but a good one that will allow me to tackle some fab projects I need to get to.

Good to hear  Didn't get the TIG kit because I didn't want to spend the money right now and don't know when I'll need it. Will definitely be adding it in the future though.

I was hoping for more info on changing the carrier bearing. How did you get the bearing off the shaft? Did you have to use some kind of pulley? I have to do mine asap. Mine is being shipped now.

It's really quite easy. Pull the driveshaft, unbolt that flange, remove the stake nut, 30mm socket IIRC, Swap the carrier bearing.

There is some weird torquing procedure for it though. I don't recall what it is as that was two years ago.

A couple of tips with mig. You could either use a cursive e or j motion to get clean welds that penetrate and fill well. Just figure I give you a tip since you gave me some with other things.

 I've got a lot to learn, just need to get some hours logged. But first I need to get some gas, as there's no welding shop local to me. Also need to get the garage wired up properly.

I used the one's cut for the axle diameter, but they weren't paired. The paired ones are much more expensive, but worth it in the time it saves you to fab it up. Just make sure they're the right width. Those look like 1.5" width, which is pretty standard, but I believe different shocks might be different.
