I am an Amateur Radio operator and want to reinstall my 2m VHF raidio in my new Tacoma. A guy told me that this will void my warranty. All I am going to do in tap into the 12v system to power the radio.

What is the difference if I added XM radio or some other elec related mod?

    Please advise.

I would not be concerned about adding a 12volt accessorie and my warranty. If it is still a concern of yours, just run a fused (fuse no more than 8'' from power source/battery) hot lead from the battery or power block.

    A thing or two...
    It won't void your warranty.

Thanks to the Moss-Magneson Act, no modification will void your warranty, unless the dealership can prove that it caused/contributed to the problem you're trying to have fixed under warranty.

Perhaps the guy was a little over-zealous and was burnt by a warranty before. Nevertheless, I will call my Service warranty just to ask.

or I could plug in a 12 vlt power supply to the outlet in the bed of the truck and run the cord in through the sliding glass window... Yeah, thats it.

Absolutely positively nothing.... Don't worry about. Just install it....

Could you utilize the fuse box in the dash to hard wire it?

it willnot void your warranty as stated above. i would recommend running your power from the battery however. i install these 2m radios on yachts and they use a little more power than the radio circuit will let you.

I power a powerblock directly from the battery for VHF and HF equip.

    Thanks for the replies...

Can we make a warranty sticky or something? It gets a little old linking people to the Magnussen-Moss Act on a daily basis.
