Ironman 4x4 Foam Cell Pro

Anybody running foam cell shocks? Anybody with any real world experience?

I was looking into suspension options (always looking) and came across the Ironman 4x4 Foam Cell Pro setup... I can't seem to find a whole lot on it aside from a few reviews... Curious how it rides compared to a similarly priced emulsion shock... How is Ironman's product quality?

I'm happy with mine. I've been running them for about a year now, front and rear. Also running their leafs because they have a slightly higher load rating than Dakar's.

 

The name sounds more like a baseball glove than a shock

 

How's the ride feel? Any complaints/concerns?

 

No complaints or concerns at all. Rides nice. I've have passengers comment on the nice ride while on very rough surfaces.

But seriously, when you see manufacturers post obnoxious crap like that, that's kind of a red flag.

From what I understand, the disadvantage of these shocks compared to Mono/Twin tube is that once a foam cell shock overheats, it generally needs to be rebuilt. The advantages over twin tube shocks is that the oil and pressurized gas don't mix in a Foam Cell. There are no advantages over a monotube floating piston design.

That said, just like any product, its not the technology but the quality that matters. Tough Dog shocks have a good reputation, but I don't know if their product is available here in the US.

My understanding is you have to get the foam up around 150 degrees centigrade before it is damaged... I don't plan on running my truck like a trophy truck so I can't see the shocks getting that hot.

 

Just looking into what's out there... And I knew nothing about foam cell shocks a few days ago, would like to continue to learn.

It depends on what type of foam the vendor uses. I'd be hesitant to trust IronMan. Their marketing is way too desperate. I get the feeling their PR department is good at putting glitter on a turd. Buy cheap and you buy twice, but that's just me.

 

True but the ads in 4x4 magazines are always extra cheese... I've seen Fox ads that aren't much better... But that's why I made this thread, to get opinions on the matter

 

Yeah, I don't know man. At the price Ive seen these (~$900 for the front coil overs and rear shocks), you can get a much better tried and true suspension setup not much

 

Seem to remember Ironman being pretty tested in Australia, wouldn't doubt them so hard.
