So........... interesting afternoon for me. Around 2pm i decided to fuck around with my truck..... keep in mind that I had to be at my about to be brother in law's bachelor party at 5:20pm. All was going to do was put shorter bolts in my carrier bearing since i had been doing some research and realized that my carrier bearing was too low. So..... 10 minute job right? :bananadead:

We started unbolting one of the bolts and the mother fucker broke! I tried to drill the bolt and use an extractor bit...... broke that too.:annoyed: called an old buddy, he came over and basically said lets drill/cut off the welded on nut...... so after alot of drilling, hammering, and 3 hours. We got it off, and i put a new nut and bolt in. Fuck me. Here's some pics, and fuck craftsman extractors.

    Tacoma vs logs. 4-0.

Got stuck a couple time and had to be creative.

I'll try to peel the tubes apart or cut a cross section tomorrow maybe. Didn't burn through that I can see.

Shouldn't burn through the tubing. Doesn't look to bad at all though. What technique are you using as far as running the bead.

Looks pretty good to me. I always let it pool up, dragged it, let it pool up, drag it at maybe a 60* angle. Per Gid's advice. Lets it penetrate a little better iirc

I just tried to hold steady speed in a straight line as best I could.

I think pushing allows a better penetration to occur. The dragging technique was adopted into mig by stick welders in which case it was better penetration. But for recreational welding it's best to do what your comfortable. Welding for a career you should always follow the welding procedures provided.

I'm assuming a 75/25 mix? what settings are the machine on? Are you doing a straight push, circles, etc?

Id try wire speed on 47ish and run the same speed. Should flatten it out a little and help it burn in.

I'll give it a try if I get it out again tomorrow. This was day 1 teaching myself. Seems like the biggest thing is just practice and getting the feel of it for different joint geometry.
