Can I mix Gear Oil..?

I checked my Diffs today and the rear is fine, but the front...I cannot touch the oil.... It's at least 3/4" below the check hole....

I can't get the Toyota 75W-85 GL-5 from the Dealer as they only have it in Drums and are not willing to share...

The stores do not have it...

I found Valvoline

$29 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)

75W-90 synthetic, and was wondering if I can just add that stuff to whatever is in the front diff. now...??

Seems to be my only option at this point.

Anyone know..?

It will be fine..........I would drain and go full synthetic........... Ck the fill plug first....
If it's dirty change it, if it's clean just add more.............
My front was really dirty the first time I changed it....

WEll... I asked my dealer to check the tranny fluid... they said NO. I asked if they would grease the U joints and check diffs... said sure if you pay..!

So I said Fuck You...! I'll not buy another vehicle from you.... And you will get nothing but bad reviews from me.

Checked the tranny myself...3/4 Liter low... greased the U joints myself.. they needed it. Checked the diffs today and need some gear oil...

I'd rather do it myself and know it's done right than fight with those assholes at the dealership.

I'm fed up with their condescending attitude...!

I've only got 3,000 Kms (1800+-miles) on it... the juice should be clean if there is any in there.... should not need to drain...

You say drain it and go fully synthetic.... isn't there synthetic in there now..??
This is what I'm concerned with...will the synthetic that I can buy mix well with the Toyota stuff in there now..?? I think it is synthetic as well.

 

I wouldn't waste your money on synthetic for the differentials.

 

You'll get a lot of particles from the break in of the ring and pinion. I personally changed mine at 5000miles and the gear oils were black with metal particles in the oil

 

What? Sythetic is far superior than any conventional oil.... pay the money for the synthethic and you will notice difference.

 

I think noticing the performance of synthetic oil over conventional is just placebo.

 

Its not about the performance. Its about wear protection and the abilitiy of the oil to stay clean.

 

That new should be clean...........
Just run the stock oil till it's dirty then upgrade......

For an engine I would agree, for the differential not so much.

The differentials take just as much abuse as the engine.

Thats like saying you wont notice a difference in your drive train after greasing your u joints.

 

Frankly who actually keeps their vehicles till the wheels fall off... Some of the over the top maintnence is like not fucking your girlfriend so she will be tight for the next guy.


That being said if you trade n every few years, conventional will be fine, if you keep it 200-300k miles splurge on synthetic
