Lifted '16 Tacomas

I considered that kit for a while as I didn't plan on wheeling too hardcore on a $35k truck that I also commute with. But when it came down to it, I decided better to have the right components on the first purchase. Buy correctly, but once sorta deal. But back to that leveling lift kit, I researched tons of spacer/leveling kit and that seems to be the most complete kit out there. Front diff drop (if ur 4x4) is a pretty important add on that other kits do not include. I would also suggest a carrier bearing spacer kit as others report ticking noises because of significantly altering the geometry of the drive train during a lift. I ended up shelling out almost $1900 for my suspension. My original plan was that specific spacer kit and a tonneau cover. But I'm glad I went the route I did. Now saving for a tonneau. Lol. But yeah man, if u go with the spacer kit, let us know how it goes. I do have some buddies with new tacos that are looking into spacers... I hope I don't get railed on here. Spacer kits are frowned upon here in TW, but ur truck, ur money, ur choice. Good luck!

How long have you had this setup on? I was wondering if you have seen any sagging or settling. Did you get 3 inches over stock?

 

Dealership checked out my truck today for a shudder going up through 20mph and slowing back down through the same range. More noticeable slowing! They did check trans fluid level and it was good, so at least I know I am not running with it low as others have had that problem. Said they could still feel while slowing down with it in neutral so they said it wasn't in the drive train. Chalked it up to bigger stiffer more aggressive tires. I actually didn't feel it on the way home when I put it in neutral when slowing, but they noted on my service sheet, with all the suspension mods, nothing could be warrantied . They didn't charge me and they all loved the truck! Hardly noticeable so not to worry I guess. Suggested finding an update for the ABS/traction control.

 

How does your drive shaft to rear axle look? Post pic if you can. Could your pinion angle cause vibration?

 

I suppose anything is possible but it looks really good to me. Here are a couple pictures

 

Some degree shims on the rear axle may help. It's hard to tell the angle on the diff from the pictures.

 

Have you rechecked your U-Bolts, Torqued to spec ? cant remember what the torque ft lbs are but should be on TW some where.

 

I see carrier bearing drop, witch good. Take one more pic so we can see differential angle and if you have any shims under your leaf pack.

There are no shims underneath the leaf pack that I can see. This is a full Leaf pack from Alcans Springs, no blocks or spacers was made specifically to give me five inches to match the six inch front lift. Mechanic at a different Toyota dealership today asked the same thing about shi ms and said that possibly need some. I wouldn't know how to do that or who to have do it though.

 

There is your problem. They are easy to install, remove place them under leaf and tighten everything back. Here are few pics that they look like. I belive you would need 4 degree shims, headstrong sells them

 

So that's probably causing the slight shudder going at 15 to 20 mph, and even more pronounced slowing down through those two speeds? There is a local spring shop, do you think they would have? Is the thick part of the wedge to the rear? And can the U bolts just be loosened a little and drive them in and retighten?

 

I'm not sure if you can get them in without removing U bolts, you can try losses all bolts and whigle them in, some shims have slot in the middle for center pin and some have hole. Lift shops shold stock them they are cheap and used on lifted suspention. The skiny part goes toward front and thik toward back. You want to keep your differential in straight line with drive shaft.

Thanks, the shudder is brief and mild, but definitely there. Toyota tried telling me it was still there when putting in neutral during deceleration, It's not! I guess I should order some shims and try. Possible they could make it worse.

 

Nice ride! Where did you get the bumper? Looks like a lot of modding of the fenders to get that to fit!

I had 2" blocks and it gave me vibrations because it was not how it's designed to work. Here is story how Toyota or others trying to tell you that it's "normal" Ordered 2" tapered blocks they send me regular straight blocks, I called them asking wtf? They call me back said they talked to their engenier and he said I don't need taperd blocks, I toght to my self bs, but because I already had all parts for my lift I decided to put them in and see if they were correct, took it for test drive and guess what! Vibration on stops from 20-10mph and humm o acceleration

Best of all call headstrong or company that made your leaf pack and ask for degree shims. I used 3 degree, you might need 4-5 maybe 6 degree.
