Truck broke down today...

It really sounds as though you're low on transmission fluid and the transmission put the truck into limp mode. I have seen this on other vehicles before but never on the Tacoma. Did they properly bring the transmission to temperature and check the fluid level. I'd be willing to bet that it is low.

 

If your light flashes and doesn't stay on steady I believe its misfiring.

 

Regardless what happened...
If you had to tow your new truck so early in its life, from now on you will always be stressed out.
So either trade for anothoer or different brand altogether.

 

Sounds like the crankshaft position sensor issue, please post fix OP once dealer figures it out.

 

My first thought was a misfire. Could be a few things but the codes will definetly be stored in the ECU. As for the moron tow truck driver I would of smacked that douche bag in the face.

 

yeah, I've always understood a flashing check engine light to mean pull the F$%^ over right now and tow it.

It has always been a cylinder issue in my experience, but maybe Toyota has additional error codes to go with it.

Were you getting on the I-15? I know that freeway very well.

Before the shuddering happened, was there an initial studder while merging to the freeway? Was there a clunk while catching speed?

Say what you want, but Blue T had been pretty much spot on about the declining quality in the 3rd Gen Tacoma since the beginning. From when we found out it was a carry over from the 2nd Gen to when the engine and tranny specs came out....

Not only did the 3rd Gen inherit the vibration issues from the second gen, but it has new issues of its own.

It's threads like this that pushes me more to get a Nissan Frontier. Yeah it's an old truck, but its issues have been resolved since 2010 and they are becoming as reliable, maybe more so than a 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacoma.

 

Im not denying that there are issues with the third gen. But there is no such thing as a perfect truck.

Yes there are issues with some peoples transmissions. Yes, there's some with faulty crankshafts. Yes, this thing howls when going 30-40mph.

But have you driven any new cars lately?

I drove a friend's 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T. The engine is nice but the thing has a one second delay between gears.

Another friend bought a 2013 Sonata 2.0T. Under 60k miles, it had a new head gasket, new turbo, transmission got stuck in 3rd gear.

Another friend bought a 2016 Dodge Ram1500. His differential gave out in the first 3k miles.

No matter what brand you buy, new or old, big or small there's no such thing as flawless.

All blue the has been saying is bad things about the truck and he doesn't even own one.

And this is a forum. People post issues on forums like these to get help. People who have no problems don't make a post. So you have to expect to see flaws.

Even though people have been experiencing delays with the transmission, I've yet to see one post of someone's transmission turning into a smoothie.

 

Nissan fixed the smoothie issue in 5 years. Toyota was still putting frames that were rusting badly through 2 generations and possibly this 3rd generation.

But when I see new Toyotas leaving people stranded on the side of a highway, "Toyota reliability" takes another hit.

 

The auto group I work for owns 21 different vehicle brand franchises. Hate to say it but they all have problems and tow ins. Components fail, it's not if, it's when. Even if the engineering is great, anything can happen at any given time. It may seem like more and more people are having issues. That's not necessarily the case. More and more people that have issues are turning to forums to look for solutions themselves, advice, or to rant. Check out other forums and you will see the same

My 2015 tranny shifts like butter, no crankshaft sensor failures I've heard of and no howling or vibrating here, even with my 3'' lift...some things BLUET says are silly, but a lot make sense and are relevant, but people are quick to defend their new $35k trucks as infallible (I would too) and people just hating, which is not always the case. I will admit build quality in any brand now a days is not the same. Its all about profit with most corporations, I doubt Toyota is much different. Years ago they had to build an image, not so much anymore.

 

Why would he be band? Does he break the coc? Or just out of butt hurt?
