Depends. Sometimes as low as 2k RPM or as high as 3k. If on the lower side, I've found I just have to be a little slower with shifting and releasing the clutch to keep things smooth.

Also, if shifting low there are a lot of clunking sounds going on. Apparently it is normal.

Totally normal. Every stick I've driven did this at one time or another. Don't let the clutch out with the shifter halfway in or you'll get grinding. All you need to do is pop it into 2nd and then back to first or pull it back to neutral, let the clutch out for a second, then push the clutch in and pop it into 1st. It may get better after you've driven it for a while, but it's the nature of a stick.

Meh. I just give it a little rev and it will slide right in.

This is what works for me I also let the clutch out a bit and let it slide in.
Another thing I do at long stoplights is leave it in neutral check the other lights for yellow, shift into first, and by the time it turns green your ready to go.

Just drove 1500 miles and did not skip a beat, and no stalls, grinding, or stuck in gear. Manual FTW!

First, the good news (I think):
I'm getting 20 mpg in mixed suburban driving, hilly, stoplights, speeds up to about 55 mph on occasion, some stop and go driving, this on my V6 Taco with manual transmission. Got 23 mpg yesterday on I-66 going west at 70-72 mpg.

Now, the "I dunno" news. Truck wouldn't start a couple of times, error message whining about brakes, but I think I figured it out. Seems the floor mat shifted and a corner of it slipped to where it interfered with the clutch pedal reaching the floorboard when I pressed it down. Does this seem possible? Once the got the mat out of the way, and I could "bottom" the clutch pedal, the problem seems to have disappeared.

    Guesses?

Yep. All Toyota manual trucks have a clutch switch. It requires the clutch to be ALL the way to the floor to start. That is what that little button you have on the left side of the steering wheel does. Clutch Start Cancel. Push that button an you can start it with the clutch not pushed.

Ahh, thanks. I learned to drive on a '32 Ford truck and a postwar jeep, neither of which had such "fancies." The jeep didn't even have a heater. :)

1-2 at 2300 for me and no trouble. First is really high I guess for pulling?

I figure shifting high in this engine should be okay. It is a modified Lexus IS 350 engine right?

The reason you like it... Because manual.

Ok I need some advice.... I have a 3rd gen automatic now....I was not impressed with the automatic at first with the constant gear hunting. I have the truck figured out now with using the sport mode and ect etc. My big complaint is cruise, the constant downshifting on the slightest grade. I'm wanting to trade it in for a manual. My question is....is the manual that much better to drive? is it worth taking the financial hit? I had a 2004 with the 5 speed and loved it. I'm worried about the higher rpm's on the highway with the manual..any input would be appreciated. Hopefully somebody that has a little bit of experience with both can chime in..Thanks !!!!

If your auto is downshifting constantly, you'll arguably be running lower RPM's on the freeway. Put it in 6th, set cruise and roll out!

I like mine on the highway. I put it in 6th set the cruise at 75 and just go. I down shift to 5th for the long steep grades and it maintains speed fine.

Does anyone know if the MT weathertechs are coming? still not showing on their web site and I am supposed to have my DCSBTRDOR next week. I had the Huskeys in my 4Runner and they were good, however the fit on the fronts, at the door sill, was not great with about a 1/8" gap. I have seen the WTs and I always wished I got those instead...I really would like some WTs for my MT.

I got the Huskeys for my MT and have been very pleased, lots of overlap, good coverage. Mud earlier this week, lots of snow and slush today. Have months of snow and slush on these and couldn't be more pleased.

I have 265/75 R16's and this makes it exactly 2500 RPM. It was slightly higher than that with stock tires.

From NewZealand where 80 percent is manual and you won't find an auto highlux , to get an auto there cost more and special order, when it came to finding a manual v6 taco I was gob smacked.... Hate autos

Thanks for the quick response! I really liked mine but they just wouldn't sit flush on the door sill. Do your huskey's fit flush?? I always wondered if I just got a bad set.

    Thanks
