Would you tow a Glk 350 merc cross country on a u haul trailer loaded with an extra 5 or 600 pounds of gear ?
Have a 2015 4 door short tray with factory towing kit
It's about 1000 to put it on transport la crosse to San Diego

Welcome to TW. Look in your GLK owners manual for the max tow rating, quick google search says it is 3500lbs, but check your owners manual. That Tacoma weighs about 4200lbs, plus 500-600lbs of gear is going to put you at least 4700lbs. Well beyond the max tow capacity of the GLK, unless your owners manual states otherwise.

I think he means towing the Merc on a trailer, not the Tacoma.

I would think about using a tow dolly. Put 2 wheels up on the dolly and off you go. The only question that needs answered is can the Merc be towed with wheels on the ground? If its all wheel drive, then the dolly method wont work. You can can tow vehicles with the drive wheels on the dolly, even if you have to put the vehicle on the dolly backwards.

I've used tow dolly's on many occasion. They don't weigh nearly as much as a trailer, so you don't subtract from your total towing capacity as much.

    That would make more sense!

Merc weighs about 4068lbs according to Google, and the Taco with the tow package is rated at 6400lbs. Do the math with the added weight from the trailer/dolly and it should doable.

NO because if I had a GLK 500 it would mean that I would have money tree in the back yard. I would use some of that money and ship the Merecdes across the country via Reliable Trucking.

Never heard of a GLK 500 but, a new GLK 350 (OPs talking about) can sell for less than a new Tacoma. The maintenance however may require a 2nd mortgage. :boink:

I've not towed anything with my Taco yet, but if it is within spec it should be ok, just take it easy. You can run the Merc down to E and save 100lbs.

Step 1 is to see if uhaul will even rent you a trailer to tow the Mercedes. Keep in mid that uhaul trailers are heavy. Last one I used was over 2200lbs. Add that to the weight of the 350 + Add the 500-600lbs you'll carry. Also one way trailer rentals cost more than pick & drop at the same place. If it were me, I'd ship it.

336 vs 1000 for the trailer if all weights stack up can't think of why they shouldn't rent it, also would still have to rent trailer for the boxes .... Other option is to drive both of them ...

Seems easiest to drive the GLK there and fly back.

I'd go for it. I'd probably run in 4 the whole way unless it was really flat.

just had my first child Saturday morning I will see when I can fit her in!!!

If it was me, I would price transporting both. Maybe they will cut u a deal. That will take a lot of stress off the move. If not I'm sure the taco could do it but I wouldn't. IMHO you need a full size truck to haul a car cross country. You should also have the tranny fluid level checked. Taco are known to be low. Best of luck!
