My 2016 Tacoma does not have keyless entry. Any suggestions on an OEM or after market system?

I have the same issues. I just bought my 2016 Tacoma SR Double Cab. If anyone had any ideas for remote keyless entry would be great. Dealership says the truck has the capability already installed, but I'm not sure. How do I find out if it is preinstalled or not. And how do I program it if it's in fact installed?

I think it's an option at the stealership

Are you speaking of wanting old fashioned fobs that pop the door locks?

If it's 'ready', I'd think it would have to have a solenoid for each door, or at least a harness plug ready for it's installation, and a place to mount the solenoid.

There would need to be a master switch for the driver door, right? Or, again, a harness inside the door ready to plug in.

If you poke around and find harnesses, maybe you'll be able to start picking the wreckers soon for the other bits instead of being pillaged at the dealer counter? Whacked '16 are showing up on here every week now.

If he also has insights would help greatly. Who makes vehicles in this day and age and omits remote keyless entry. I don't know to, I'm sure I'll be surprised. Love the truck though.

I've seen people use hammers for keyless entry. Sometimes slim jims. :)

I'd love to find out what everyone comes up with cuz I'm in the same boat. I think a lot of people will benefit from a solid answer. Till then, there will be more posts about the same question from new users like us.

I had my viper 2 way lcd remote start and keyless installed professionally by my neighbor at the custom shop he works at, he got all the wiring diagrams from their special website that they have access to.

How much did that run you? If you got a break from the neighbor do you know how much it normally cost? Just so I have an idea

I tried installing one in my '16 4x4 SR access cab. Ive put way too many hours in trying to figure it out. Its not like any other vehicle ive messed with. Something about it operating off of closing a ground loop. Anyways, I've finally given up and I have an appointment on Monday at an audio shop to have one installed. He looked up the diagram over the phone and quoted me $220 installed. Hopefully he can stick that price and no surprises. Once I get it home I'll be pulling off the panels and see how he wires it up. Then I'll make a post on the forum about what I find with pictures.

I took my SR to a stereo shop and they installed a keyless entry for $120. It really buged me not being able to get in the passenger side of truck with out going to drivers side and tuning the door key 2 times to unlock the passenger side. I often wonder how it looks when you take you beautiful wife out to dinner and people see you not open the door for your girl. I don't take her out with work truck but wonder how other people feel about this.

I appreciate the feedback. I'll have to find an audio shop around where I live. I know next buy will do it but I bet it'll cost $200+ which I don't want to pay that much.

Reason why I don't want to go to dealership. They're scumbags sometimes. They sell these trucks without keyless entry then charge you arm and leg to put one in.

And thats if the factory put the actuator parts in there. Ive had other cehicles that came without keyless entry but was told everything is already there from the factory and that I just needed to program a key to it only to find out that the factory doesnt always prewire everything depending on their mood and day of the week.

Im only paying $220 for the audio shop to put it in because it will also come with an alarm not just keyless entry. Mainly because I have a '12 Subaru STi that we use for long trips and the Tacoma gets left home or when we fly somewhere the Tacoma is the one that gets left at the airport.

P.S. Toyota batteries suck and will almost always be dead when you come back from a week long vacation. Always put a mobile battery jumper in the backseat when you leave your Taco at the airport.

I had the viper system installed for the $120 and it was easy for them to do and only took them an hour to do. All 2016 have door actuators in them now. When you turn the key in door on drivers side twice it in locks passenger side door and they lock doors when you put them in gear. It is standard equipment now

Good to know. I'm about to purchase the Viper system on Amazon. I find a shop who will install it. But I also need a bypass module for the remote start system. I hope in a couple of weeks I'll have mine installed.
