Thanks. I'm gonna be doing mostly trail With hopes of getting into the mountains later in the year. I'm just trying to be strategic with the mods. I think it will be tires, light, sliders. But I wanted to see if someone could make sense of doing something else.

Not today, but last week I screwed up my Tacoma badges trying to dip them. I did 5 coats, but that wasn't enough (?), as it didn't peel off around the letters very well, and it was impossible to get the dip out from inside the 'As' and 'Os." The SR% and V6 came out nicely though. I guess I'll take them off, dip, and reinstall.

I understand from reading this thread the it is best to heat the badges a bit and then use floss or fishing line to separate them from the body.

Question---What's the best adhesive to put them back on? I bought some 3M (38583) 1/4" x 15' Exterior Attachment Tape, but it seems a bit thick. Any ideas?

It's not just the Canadian Rockies! We live with it every day here in Colorado also. Pull out at the very base of a long grade then chat through their windows all the way up the grade.

I didn't plastidip mine, but painted so I can't help you there, but the 3M auto trim tape is the way to go. I used the 1/2" 3M tape on my Tacoma emblems. They are almost exactly 1/2" tall. I took an exacto knife and trimmed the tape at the edges and in the holes on a cutting board. I then re-coated the badges with flat black paint after the tape was trimmed, then clear coated with matte clear. After they are cured, just peel off the red backing and apply to a clean surface and you are good to go.

That's like my very first trip with the new Taco! Almost all downhill from Steamboat Springs, I was SO impressed until I realized where I'd just driven. Had to tone down the excitement a bit...

Amen to that. Lots of trickery around the extra stuff that's bolted on the frame already.

What did you do with the wire bundle that's clipped to the frame on the driver side? Mine's still just flapping loose, not really anything nearby to zip-tie it to.

Thanks Sooner. I'll go with the 3M tape I bought and you recommend.

What bumper do you go with? Was there a lot of cutting? And more picture of the whole finish front of that possible. Thank

    Honestly.... terrible.
I live in Canada and this winter was a pain because the parking lot where I work is up a little hill. And I mean little. But I couldn't get up the damn thing as soon as there was a couple inches down.

There was a couple times I actually got stuck in shallow snow. I hate not being able to spin the tires.

That being said, I had stock tires and no weight in the back.

No weight over the rear axle. Either need to add weight or get some snow tires

This is pretty much what you loose to put the bumper on.
The fair lead that came with it is kinda cheesy and doesn't match up well with the bumper. The bumper is from Insain Fab.
I'm going to wait on the finished pics. The stock flares are off and I'm making some trim this week to make the seam between
The bumper and the body square.
I should have it finished next week. image.jpg
