Hey guys, I just walked into the garage and heard a humming noise. Crawled under the truck and this box (attached picture) was humming and vibrating. I looked it up the part number -
77740-04040 and it says it's a charcoal canister assembly. Not sure what that really means, I assume its some sort of filter. Bottom line, it was "running" or something attached to it was. The truck has been sitting for over 6 hours so nothing should have been on. I went inside and got the key, didn't crank the truck but turned the accessories all the way on then off. It stopped when the electrical turned off again. Has anyone else experienced this or know what might cause it? I cranked the truck and it started, then turned it back off and again the humming was gone. Any input would be appreciated.

Its the evap/fuel system check doohickey. Its supposed to kick on around 5-6 hours after you turn the truck off. Nothing to worry about. It runs for maybe 15ish minutes and then shuts off. My 2012 Subaru STi does it and when I first bought it, it freaked me out. There is some info about in your owners manual somewhere, just can't remember where.

Thanks guys! Much appreciated, I started getting that sick feeling in my stomach that something was already f-ed up in my brand new truck. I had enough problems with my Avalanche, part of the allure of moving to the TACO was reliability.

Now I can actually fall asleep tonight. Thanks again!

My old Honda Accord did this every half hour or so. Rather annoying.

Is that those books they put in the glove box? Maybe they should quit putting those in there and just create a login to TW for you when you buy a new Tacoma.

At this point they really should.. maybe it'd bring the price of the truck down a few bucks.
