Crazy how dead that place looks. I haven't gone back since we pounded all those orange whiskers into the ground. It looks so different. Good to see the gate and map has helped
As much as I hate to say it, I think they should lock the gate to vehicles for at least a year to let the vegetation come back, and then maybe reopen it if the plants are well established. It's hard to tell people to stay on the designated roads when you can't even tell where the road actually is. As much as I love wheeling, I will try hard to avoid running over living plants. Especially the naupaka :(

There is new markers, now blue in color. still a little hard to see, unlike how the pink ones were. some of the marked roads are different now,. Most follow the map, but there are some places where it got marked different.

Yeah...they were pretty random on the original marker placement except for the cross-over roads from the main road to the beach. There was a UH student working on her degree telling us where to put them back then...

And still, you don't really need a map or markers to know not to run over the plants.

Thanks guys for letting me tag along and please let me know when the next outing comes up but maybe I'll pass on the Waikane trails at least until I get some sliders ;). And thanks @polekasta for the pineapple. Gave it to my wife and it made up for coming home late.
