So today as I was cruising down the hyw from a busy day at work.... Going between 60-65mph. When I slow my speed down due to traffic my speed needle got really notchy and increase my speed it's really notchy as well. My digital cluster has no problem.
Once I came to a stop at a red light and continued on my way, my speedo needle was fine. I took an alternative route from there and got back up to the speed where I noticed the problem and it didn't happen again.
    Anybody else have this issue?!
Truck only have 4600 miles on her and this has been the only problem that I've had with it.

My definition on notchy- like the speed needle is moving then stops moves then stops.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Seems like another guy that that issue or it was his tach needle.

Don't remember the thread but might come up with a search.

Or wait for your 5k service and let the dealer fix it.

Thank you! The people on TW are awesome.
In the vedio clip that's exactly what mines doing/did. I've since went out to dinner and haven't happens again. Hoping it was just a one time deal. Glad to know I'm not the only one out there. So far Lil Red has bee. That unicorn truck I've wanted.
I'll definitely be letting the dealer know this will weekend when she's in for her 5k treatment.

Mine did it when the truck was new. But now with 7500 miles it has gone away and is smooth all the time.

Mine was doing it a few weeks ago. Over 7k miles on truck. Haven't seen it since but definitely does not give warm fuzzy. Search forum for Ticking Speedometer

Yesterday was the only time it has done it. Like stated above it doesn't leave you with a good feeling. But once I hit a red light and the needle Sat at rest it didn't act up anymore after that. Getting ready to head to work so we'll see how Lil Red treats me this morning.

Electrical phantoms are some of the hardest to resolve even if you can replicate. This used to be more common on Domestic vehicles. Sad we are seeing it on Toyota now. One guy had his entire instrument/gauge cluster removed & replaced. He claimed that this resolved his issue. I believe his problem became more consistent and they were able to witness the issue at the service dept. Throwing parts at the problem is rarely the best method for solving these issues but it seems as though they might have fixed it. I'd be more interested in seeing Toyota perform a Root Cause Analysis on some of these issues but I won't hold my breath.

My guess is that is will get more frequent over time. I've had the same issue in two previous Toyotas.

Electrical problems is why my 2010 went down the road! Hoping it was just a glitch?! I'm going to definitely keep an eye on it. And it will be brought up this Saturday during my 5k service! Luckily my stealership has been really good to me in the past. You'd figure buying 10 new rigs from them that they would treat you good!
I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again.I'd really hate to have to get a 2017 TRD pro over the whole deal

Don't you go saying silly shit like that!
I'm really hoping that it doesn't! That thought has been in the back of my mind tho. However driving to work this morning she didn't even have a hiccup. So we'll start over. Day 1 so far so good!

If I dump the 2016 I'd be hesitant to dump more money into a higher trim level in such close proximity to the 2016 year. If they change the transmission/combo to improve the driving experience (add a turbo option?), I'd be on board with swapping to a 2017 but I see hell freezing over as being more probable. The PRO just sounds like the same truck, same issues, just different badges, suspension lift, tires, and wheels for a shit ton more money than it would cost to do the same in (better) aftermarket mods.

I absolutely love my 2016! The only thing that has came up has been the stated issue in the thread. But to me mine drives great, I get great fuel mileage and my transmission isn't constantly shifting compared to what others have stated. Drove my supervisors 16' and it shifted noticeably more then my truck. Thinking on a 17' PRO would be that it would give them a little more time to get the bugs out.
But since Lil Red is all paid for I will probably just keep her around for a few years. Hopefully problem free!!

Well I was really hoping that the tic toc needle ordeal would have been over with....
Had a successful drive to work this morning with no hiccups from the speedo needle.
    It was around 40ish degrees.
However on the way home I got the tickets tocking needle. It seems to act up about 10mins into my drive home. Once the truck is all warmed up it seems. On the trip home it was 85 degrees out... So it's only happening when it's hot out it seems!

Through reading a few fourms, it seems as there has been a handful of people experiencinh this problem!
One guy stated that toyota replaces his instrument cluster, and had no longer had the problem
While another guy said that he had the same needle problem and the needle was off a couple mph from the get go... But once he had his transmission fluid topped off the problem went away and the needle wasnt off on the mph anymore...

So is it possible it's a symptom of low transmission fluid? Or more of an electrical issues?
Would the sensor be in the transmission?
