maybe it's time for a high clearance bumper?

and one more from today, it was pretty sweet going two days in a row:cool:
    DSC_0491_c3ffc856eeb9eb66cdb9139c1f5a901bc26c2a01.jpg

but today I went with the tucson off road club, they were all nice guys....but a 90% jeeps. just 2 blazers, a nissan and one other old tacoma, and 12 jeeps:eek:

but it was a fun trail, kinda skinny roads, but just challenging enough to be really fun and still not really need a spotter. I could tell they were thinking about giving me a hard time for having a toyota, but i never them the chance to. never got stuck, hardly ever even spun my tires. and thats better than a few of the other jeep guys did.

    Some updates:

Still waiting on a new bumper

and I'm working on a skid plate to replace the stock ones.
I've got the shape cut out, and some mounts made. Now I just need to weld them in place and drill holes in to bolt it up. as well as cut an oil drain hole.

actually I only have the bottom most plate, I still need to cut out the one that goes up an an angle

but here are some pictures of what i have so far

    DSC_0555_c0e63ed4b635d775413777f5ddb73925781e396f.jpg

    DSC_0556_6d5a007a116c199a6716babc08b10b8f53103973.jpg

I plan on putting gussets on the tall mounts, and maybe doing something like a reinforcement skeleton to keep it from warping.

hopefully it'll be done in a week.

    TOTAL COST SO FAR:
$2.88 (for longer bolts in the back)

haha i'd love to work on a project like that....but i'm not that into rock crawling:eek:

My truck will most likely be an expedition truck.....or if i save up some serious $$ i'll do long travel

I'd like to do that. the front grille is a pice of crap right now, the two bottom clips are broken and the whole thing is in terrible shape. so i'd like to replace it with a black one.

and for the rear bumper i've been thinking of trading for a black one or for the base model black ones if they fit.

but i'd rather get a high clearance one so i wouldn't drag it on the ground as much. that way i could also cut off the part of my bed sides that i've already dented and scratched:rolleyes:

I got more steel to do the skid plates. This time I have 3/16". I also had to make another set of mounts because the second set was too short.

I was able to put the bend in the this plate also, so it's all one piece like the all pro.

bending it was interesting. I scored it along the line i wanted to cut it, and then put that on the edge of the table. Then i strapped it down and had at it.....it was a little difficult for me to bend it when i'm 6' tall and only 140 lbs

here's a look at the set up
    DSC_0130-1_915e33b7990d8ccbb021bf8e4c467688cf585c54.jpg

the bend turned out perfect....hopefully the whole thing turns out great this time!

Dang son you need some sheet metal tools...

I used to work at a shop a long time a go and we had huge tables to do the bending, they were really cool.

    Good job, it's looking good.

haha for me it was more like measure 8 times, decide all the measurements were off and then free hand it.....

it's just very difficult to figure out where to drill a whole when it's on the underside of the truck! I'm ganna try and make a template out of acrylic glass...that should solve the problem
