I think you could use it. Using the mobilinkd allows the device to be used for other things like torque, mp3 to the radio or navigation without being tethered to the baofeng which may be tethered to an antenna and also tethered to a 12v plug. More freedom to utilize that android device at the cost of 60 was worth it

Well I have about 100 of those stupid cables.
Or I did until I threw about 80 of them away.

I think I'm going to try that route whenever I can get the license fairy to take my test for me

I keep setting that damn mobilinkd somewhere and can't find it. I lost it when I moved for about 8 months then found it 3 months ago and lost it before my moab trip in march

    It is currently lost

I was pissed that I was out of town for the class that RMO put on last week or the week before. I need to look into the APRS/nav stuff.

Do you know if that aprs app can run in the background? If it can't, I figure it won't much matter how it's connected as you won't be able to use the phone for anything else.

If it can, I figure I could still use the phone for torque and connect it with a cord to the baofeng.

I'm not in Colorado, can I be an honorary member anyway? If it helps my company has an office in Denver and another in Littleton. :)

oh.... I also APRS, although I'm not using an android phone. I've got a Byonics MicroTrak-RTG (10w version) in the truck, with a GPS-5.

    Yes.
I'll second and third what @odomandr has said. Once you hit the "Start tracking" button on aprsdroid, it keeps running until you press "Stop Tracking" or the battery dies. Whichever comes first.

    Yes.
Also, I'll guarantee that anyone who WANTS to get licensed, can get to a passing grade with less than two weeks of studying. I have three co-workers/employees who are within two questions of consistently passing the test without having ever studied any of the materials.

Also, Gauntlet Thrown.... First person here who posts their CSCE for a new license here after (April 18, 2016).... I'll send them a new handheld radio. (Limited to the first person to post a photo of their CSCE dated 04,18,2016 or later)
