So I had a local shop (Canadian Tire) install my winter tires on a new set of rims. I paid for new TPMS sensors, so I could keep the sensors I have in my (stock) summer tires.

It took going back to the shop twice for them to get the TPMS sensors working (I should have known better with Crappy Tire).

Yesterday, I put my summers on, and the TPMS light came on. I tried the TPMS reset, where you turn key on and hold the 'set' button, and eventually the tpms indicator stopped flashing and just went solid.

Any ideas on what is going on here?

The TPMS brain can only hold 5 sensor codes at a time. Your winter sensor codes are in there now. The summer codes have to be programmed in to replace them. This has to happen every time you swap.

5 sets? Or 5 tires? Well that is annoying. How do I program them in? I have a bluetooth odb2 for my android phone, would that work? What the he'll is the point of the 'set' button then? Can I get both sets of tpms programmed to same code? Should the local tire shop have done that for me?

    Thanks for the reply BTW.

5 tires. Toyota use to put one in the spare but stopped. I'm not sure what tool does the reprogramming. I run my winter set with no sensors. I would have thought shop would swap the codes. They have the tools.

Thanks. I paid over $200 cad to have the sensors put in those rims. I am going to have a fit if I still have to go back to a shop to have the programming done every swap. I explained to shop what I was planning on doing and the said it would work if I bought the sensors. Serves me right for using Canadian Tire.

Do you want the TPMS for piece of mind or just don't want to see the dash light ?

Well mainly to satisfy my ocd. It is a nice feature to have, as it prevents me from having to check tire pressure. I had an incident when I was younger, now and a little ocd about it.

I suppose I could trick the light into going off?

It looks like according to this I am SOL unless I want to buy special programming equipment: https://www.redi-sensor.com/dont-confuse-tpms-relearn-sensor-programming/

If you just want the light off , make a pvc pipe pressure vessel , put the sensors in it , pressure it up and put it under the back seat , the end

I ran 2 sets of sensors for awhile. The sensors are programmed to match the truck. The truck does not store codes for multiple sets. Some earlier years read 5 tires, later years 4 tires. Any tire tech with a clue can get you set up in just a couple minutes.

I thought with Techstream it has for both sets of tires... Toyota tech on TW can probably answer that. I'm about to switch wheels/tires and will have new TPMS installed. The cool thing is that if you have OBD reader, you can read the tire pressure real time. It's something Toyota doesn't expose except for idiot light to tell you have a flat/low tire pressure. I'm waiting for new receiver with the OBD integration and have more features available.

My 2006 it read 5 because I had 5 sensors one being in my spare. The logic in the tpms ecu had 5 data cells to input code. The service manual that used to be online through a wheelin club that got shut down by Toyota corp use to have the comprehensive chapter on the tpms system. Some screen shots are probably archived here in posts from 2007 because we were complaining about this once Toyota introduced it 2006. The hack techstream let's you make changes on some model years. I used that. The thread that was linked goes through all the methods.....

One other option is to see if the TPMS sensors that they installed can 'clone' the stock ID numbers. Some aftermarket sensors have the ability to be programmed the same number as the stock units. I use the Techstream cable and program the sensors when I flip from winter to summer, etc... The downside of the Techstream software is that it needs a 32 bit XP computer.

Hey sheamus, do you know if cantire used clone tpms sensors? Or did they just use generic ones and program them in for you? If you have the serial numbers for all the tpms sensors, I have one of the techstream cables and I happen to live in Regina as well. :canada: I haven't tried using the cable to program new sensors as I run no tpms in the winter, but I have the cable and software if you'd like to give it a shot. I'd just have to dig out/dual boot an xp laptop to give it a try.

Does not need XP, 32 bit yes. I am running it on Win10 without doing anything special, installed off the CD that came with it.

So you have a 32 bit version of Win10 installed?
