4x4 sounds like grinding gears when engaged

Hey what's goin on fellas, so about two weeks ago I did the trail in Lytle creek and it was fairly easy except I did need to go into 4Lo to get through one part of it anyways I tried engaging it and everything I do know how to engage it properly so o tried and it sounded like the gears were grinding. I turned it off and it stopped I though maybe it had something to do with me being on an incline so I rolled down the hill and it worked so I didn't pay it any mind after that. This weekend I tried 4Lo again on flat ground for shits and giggles just trying to see if that was really my problem and it made the sound again like it was grinding gears. What could be wrong any ideas? I called Toyota and im taking it in tomorrow but I wanted to ask here as well.

Don't engage switch between 4hi and 4low unless you are at a complete stop.

 

Still shouldn't grind. Besides, he said he knows how to engage/ disengage. Let's assume he does.

 

They will grind if you are moving when you shift, there is no synchro for the hi/low shift fork like there is for the 2wd/4wd shift fork

 

Mine just beeps and won't even try to shift if the planets don't align.

 

I was in neutral at a complete stop when it sounded like that.

 

Don't ask here. Take it to Toyota and enjoy the warranty service.

Although be prepared for "Well it looks like you offroad so you must've broke it."

I don't understand what would grind then if you were completely stopped. You sure the clutch was completely depressed
