Is the locking doors when you put it in gear a dealer activated option? Mine definitely does not do that. I don't think I want itnto but interesting to know.

 

I'm just saying there is a reason why they make higher trim levels.

 

My Tacoma was the cheapest Tacoma you can buy and it has power door locks. Does your Tacoma have power door locks buttons on drivers door? Because I have not seen any 2016 tacomas without them I thought it was mandatory for safety.

 

Mine has them too. I just need the clicker, which it doesn't come with. So I have to get a custom one put in. The dealership tried to program one in and it didn't work. So it must be missing the wiring behind the scenes to make a clicker work. It's all good though because even it's all said and done I'll get a remote start and Keyless entry combo installed.

 

I could of had the remote start done but I could not see the cost ver Needing it. I could see it if I lived in the cold but not here.

 

True. I don't really need it FL either. But sometimes it gets to damn hot. Truth is I'm getting it so I can say I have it haha.

 

It appears from what you all are saying that only the remote itself it missing? That the doors are already 'powered locks'?

If that's the case, I'd be going OE. I've seen too many aftermarket alarm systems that created untold issues 4-5 years into their life.

If you're put off by the fob cost and the dealers secret programming method/cost, just wait. It won't be long until the fobs are available via quality locksmith shops, and programming steps are available on the internet.

Knowing how to programming replacement fobs has been an issue over the years for ALL marquees, and the answers always show up eventually. I mean it's possible that the gen 2 steps work on the gen 3. Seems pretty unlikely that the remote system would be a 'fresh redesign'.

In fact, I'd be inclined to try a fob for an 'older' Toyota and give a shot at programing it.

 

Sure there is. To pay more for what you want than is necessary. The convenience package that only adds keyless entry and cruise control was $480. I installed oe foglights, cruise control, intermittent wipers and keyless entry system with an alarm for $475.

 

Yes, mine does have power door locks but they do not lock when you put the truck in gear. Maybe it is something that is turned on/off at the stealership.

 

One of the reasons I bought the model I did... Really like the just grab the handle and open the door feature and touch the handle to lock.

 

Great feature. I have that, plus some, in my 2014 Highlander XLE. It spoils ya. I should have done the same in the truck. It's my first truck and I guess rookie mistake. But this week allow me to really enjoy the truck by doing customizations to it.

 

Where did you have this done or what components did you use to do it for $475?

 

My dealership called yesterday and offered $350 to do it for me. What do y'all think about that price point for two damn clickers? I think it's a bit much.

 

Had the keyless plus alarm installed locally for 220.

Way too much. I got a keyless entry with alarm including shock sensors for $220. Might have to have the shock sensors adjusted since my STi sets it off if I start it in the garage. If I roll out first, no problems. Haha

 

I ordered Viper Remote Start and Keyless Entry from Amazon for like $90. Then I'll find a shop to install it for me. I'm sure I'll be under $300 for sure when it's all done. I'm also ordering running boards and fog light kits tonight. I'll install those myself... Hopefully there's a YouTube instruction on the fig lights, somewhere. I'm really looking FWD to making this truck into what I want it to be. It should be a fun process
