I've walked around on top of this thing a few times, it has a reinforced top, didn't budge at all as I was up there.

Is that the new nomad carbon rear triangle? Man that thing can handle some punishment it looks like.

It is indeed. I found a small (very tiny) fracture in the paint that could be indicative of a coming failure, and Santa Cruz warrantied it. Got the new swingarm in, pulled the old one and did everything I could to destroy it.

    I failed.

Apparently this video has been viewed over 125k times, and shared (on FB) 465 times. Dang.

At least now you know that it wont fail on you when you're out. The new nomads are super sweet bikes. Wish I could afford one.

I'm really liking this iteration of your truck.

How are you liking the bed platform and slider setup? I keep tossing around the idea of building a similar setup.

So far, so good. I'd like to make the top platform a bit stiffer when it's open... I wouldn't mind having bearings, but it's a fine setup though.

The drawers are great, having one big flat surface (again, it's basically the flatbed with a lid) is pretty awesome. The only thing I really wish were different, is I want/need windoors for the topper.

Otherwise, my placement of the cooler kinda sucks.

Do you have more detailed pictures? I'm looking to build a bed drawer system and this is rad.

Hmm. Do believe I saw your truck outside of the Golden Bike Shop a couple of Sundays ago when I was pedaling back from Apex. Good looking rig!

I don't currently, I'll try to get some more details for ya! With some experience on this setup, I can say that I would like to have the drawers and top run on bearings, while the HDPE tape is nice, when everything gets loaded down, it's kind of a pig to get moving--the top particularly. I may redo this in a few months after living with it for a while longer. However, drawer slides are not necessary... some of the bigger commercial companies use two sets of opposing roller bearings, vs. expensive and space-wasting drawer slides. If you're around Golden ever, hit me up, I'll gladly show you.

You did indeed, my truck finds itself there often, usually for about 10 hours at a time ;)

Are those wires just crimped into the connectors or soldered? Are they the ones that came with the items? I tried to crimp the ones that came with my voltmeter and the crimper busted right through the hard plastic.

@cynicalrider I wanted to use the insulated connectors they sent, but I lost them, so I just used a few of the like 150 that I have kicking around... I think it's important to be sure to use crimpers designed for insulated connectors, vs. non-insulated. I've soldered some connections in the past, but when you're doing dozens of those little f*ckers, that's the last thing you want to deal with... I've had pretty good luck with crimped connections so far, so I don't see much reason to quadruple the time it takes to do that stuff haha.

I've also started buying connectors in bulk, since I tend to use a lot of them....

Maybe that's my issue then? I always either cut through or the crimped connection doesn't hold. I said fuck it and started soldering everything but I have to do a series panel like that soon for my tool box and crimping will definitely be more ideal.

What's your tool look like? I have like three wire tools that I use, a small one that's really sharp and good for cutting/stripping, and an older big fucker that I use to crimp only, and one really complicated looking one that I use for assembling weatherpack connectors.

This is what the cheap insulated crimpers look like, just broad and flat, with color code for the gauge/color of connector.

I have one like the first, and it works fine (for me), but I'm sure eventually I'll buy the second.

And probably auto-strippers, but I'm cheap and my stripper works ;)

Thoughts? Not sure I'm 100% ready to drill into my roof.

Looks good, some of the other racks I've seen used some sort of leg systems in the front of the rack that aren't drilled to the roof. Maybe you can do something similar!!!

But what about the middle of the rack, sorry, my bad!!!:anonymous:

I've looked into the leg stuff, but that leaves me with the same questions about the middle of the rack :|

All this rack is, is basically just a cheap test-pilot for building something out of 80/20 later down the line ;)
