Oh no. I do plan on doing the actual recessed "grille" section in a metallic glossy gunmetal like I did my badges, but leave the outer frame and crossbar in JLee's black, with the inferno backplate. I think having that bit of recessed dark grey would make the crossbar stand out a lot more. If I don't like it, peel it off. Similar color to the 4x4 on the off road's bed decal.

Love the grill and heavily considering it. My only question is how does your powder coating stand up to winters and salt. I only ask because so far everything steel powder coated I have put on my truck has been a major let down. It always ends up rusting some how some where it seems to take hold ugh. Stupid salt id rather they never salted screw the drivers with 2wd cars. Lol

This is a good question for sure. I have had a couple friends with powder coated sliders that started to show rust spots in just a few weeks.

I feel dumb for asking this question - but before I drop the hammer, I want to make sure I'm getting what I want...

"Color Match the whole grille two stage with a high gloss clear" - means the ENTIRE grille will be whatever color I choose, yes?

So if I want only the "TOYOTA" script in Silver Sky, I need to choose the "Color matching backing plate two stage with a high gloss clear" and choose the Silver Sky option...

    Thanks in advance for clarification!

Strongly considering this grille, I just have a couple questions.

My Taco is black, so do I have to select the black option? or is it black by default. (sorry if this is a stupid question)

Also, how possible would it be to get the letters to be matte black?

    Thank you in advance!

Since JLee has been swamped and working weekends trying to get these out, and I know how much it SUCKS to read through 50 pages and 985 posts of info to get the few little bits you want, let me step out of my lane for a minute to (hopefully) help out.

You understand correctly. if you select the Toyota script in silver sky, then the rest of the grille will be JLee's black powder coat. "The grille comes standard Powder coated with a black mini texture" according to the order page.

If you select nothing in the custom colors, the grille will be all powder coated with black mini texture coated by default. If you want it all to be color matched to your truck in high gloss, that's when you choose "Color Match the whole grille two stage with a high gloss clear" and pick black.

As for matte black, according to JLee in post 499, his standard mini texture powder coat is "more of a matte black with about a 40% sheen."

So, if you want your letters in the standard "mini texture" matte black, just don't pick anything that triggers an up-charge in the "Color matching backing plate two stage with a high gloss clear" option on the order page. Thankfully, if its not as matte as you were hoping for, you can always remove the backing plate and spray it yourself!

I noticed on the website they no longer have the option for black powder coated bolts... I hope I will still recieve my grill with that option. o_O

Been waiting 14weeks for this grill, it's hard to be patient, but will be well worth the wait.

    ^ I asked, was told this;
"Just about everyone ordered black bolts so we bit the bullet and ordered the more expensive bolts with the black coating. I just updated the pricing on the site going forward so now black bolts are included."

^Sweet! Good to know. Yeah, I noticed they've changed some options on the website since I ordered mine. Curious to see what the fully color matched grille looks like, not for my taste, but could be interesting.

That's actually awesome. I wonder what the cost difference is. But on the plus side, he won't have to powder coat the bolts.

I may have been the only one who ordered the bolts not powder coated because i kinda liked the look of steel bolts. So i'll get my bolts power coated? in which case i'm cool with it! :)
