1 1/2 years ago I got bilstein 5100 installed on my tacoma. This week I noticed heavy squeaking coming from front suspension. After a little visual inspection I noticed something weird on the top plate/upperbushing (see pic #1). I can even move the bushing/shock rod assembly...

I've been running this setup for only 30K km so I'm wondering whats going on, is the installation fine ?

wow you need to get that fixed asap. Top hat is likely shot at this point. Possible the washers and bushings were installed wrong.

Based on the passenger side, does it seem to be installed correctly ?

you are going to have to take it apart to really see whats up.

Honestly looks like the bushings were installed wrong. The small one should be up top the big one on the bottom.

it doesnt even look like a lower bushing was installed, either that or it was installed incorectly and spit the bushing out if it cracked.

Yeah, even the passenger's side is not right. That top bushing should be compressed to the point it fills the diameter of the washer. The top hats I have, had the lower bushing incorporated in them. I don't know if the factory ones do or not. But as others have said, it looks like yours are missing.

This is the layout of what I have. Pretty much matches your schematic.

    That's what it looks like.

Even on the passenger's side, the top bushing doesn't even look like it's compressed. If it is, it doesn't look like it is by much. We can't see what's going on under the top hats, but there's supposed to be another bushing under there. If that were missing, that would explain the reason the top ones have play in them.

On the driver's side, that shock looks like it's toast. The washer (or clip) that holds dust cover, and all the bushings above it, is gone and no longer sitting up top.

    Ok I understand now !

I wanna get as much informations as possible cause I'm gonna take the truck to the shop that installled the shock 1 1/2 year ago.

The truck had only like 10k miles when they installed the shocks, so I guess to hey forgot to instal the lower bushing.

Can anyone tell me of factory hats come with lower bushing, its a 2013 tacoma

    Thanks

stock top hats have the lowers in them incorporated. with that much play i wouldnt be surprised if the top hats have begun to dig into the shaft of the strut. This happens when the bottom bushing is pretty much shot.

Judging by the driver's side pic, you will need to order top hats as well anyways. At this point, If it were me, I would be ordering a new pair of shocks, top hats, and IIRC all the bushings come with the shocks.

I'm not ordering anything yet, I'm taking the truck to the shop that installed the shocks friday. They gotta pay for everything since they made the mistake.
