What do yall think of my new bumper design?

Been learning how to use CAD software and this is my first project. what do yall think?

 

Looks good to me, this is just my personal preference but I would try and have the hitch recessed into the bumper

 

Recessing the hitch in the bumper means laying on the ground to put the pin in till you figure out just how to do it without seeing it.

I learned this the hard way.

Design looks good but the only real thing is do you like it.

Maybe include some real world measurements in case you save this 11 months later you want to build it

 

To lay under the truck to put a hitch pin in is minor IMO. I'd rather deal with that and keep a good depature angle.

Bumper looks good OP. What CAD software do you use?

 

Oooh, SolidWorks? I should design my bumper. Like yours OP, I would recess the bumper as well, makes sure if you tow or snatch someone that there isn't so much leverage on the main piece as well.

 

Should have mounting brackets for plate

 

Where will you mount your license plate? If you recess the hitch then you could hide it with your plate, hinged from the bottom unless that would interfere with your trailer coupler. IDK

 

OP double check your mounts. They need to be flipped 180 degrees. There are 4 bolts on each side you can utilize to mount it to the frame. 2 on the outer sides of the frame (head of the bolt pointing away from the truck) and 2 on the bottom of the frame (pointing towards the ground). You'll also want to re-inforce the mounts back to the bumper Other than that and the previous comments looks good! Maybe even get some type of wrap around protection.

I made a bumper like that on solid works as well, just a little different plus a swing out

 

It is solid works and i do have a small problem with the way the hitch is but im stuck between recessing it and having to do more work but gaining structural integrity and keeping it convenient. maybe ill drop the hitch down just a bit more cause ill still have damn good ground clearance and it'll be safer. Still thinking about boxing the rear frame a bit too to help structural integrity.

What kind of departure angle is REALLY necessary? Unless you're doing serious rock crawling the few degrees of departure angle over the center 6" of your bumper will be irrelevant.

 

I think your design looks pretty good though. Have you thought about putting 1.25" square openings just inside of the frame rails for an auxiliary basket or bike rack?

 

To each there own but for me laying in a foot of mud to install the pin through the receiver was not in any way fun.

Is it really that hard to deal with a hitch pin without looking at it?? I have a relentless bumper with the hidden behind the plate reciever and have never had an issue....

 

I dont think ive ever had to look. It's not that complex.

 

1st gens stock bumper already have a decent departure angle. So aftermarket doesn't need a lot. 2nd gens have horrible rears. You're angles are fine OP

 

I am just quite a klutz then I have no idea just how your bumpers are designed

This one the hole through the receiver tube was between two pieces of channel the receiver tube ran through.

really no way to reach in there but from the bottom up with my short arms I could only reach it laying on the ground

 

I would push the receiver in as well so it doesn't drag behind on hills and looks cleaner. It will also make it easier to weld it through the rear of the bumper for additional strength. Make sure the tow rings go through as well and weld to the rear.

Also...with the hitch receiver sticking out like that, you'll be running into it more times than you would like. It may be only a few inches, but anything metal jutting out seems to be something that every shin/knee seems to hit.
