I'm looking to lift my truck, but I don't want to go any higher than 1 inch (for awhile anyway)...I just need to clear my current wheels/tires as they rub slightly when making sharp turns.

From what I can gather, I won't need a suspension overhaul kit to attain 1 inch...would getting Bilstein 5100's for the front (adjusted to 1 inch) and an AAL for the rear do the trick? That would work with my stock springs, yes?

Thanks in advance...I'm new to the game and I've been searching the site extensively, but there is so much info out there on lifts that it has my head spinning...most of it pertains to 3-6 inch lifts.

No worries, I probably should have specified my truck lol. 2004 TRD 4x4, 5 speed

That site I linked to above has 883's for my truck, says I'll need matching OME 90004 shocks to go with them. I'm assuming I'll still need to do an AAL in the rear to keep it level?

Going stock will lift your truck from how it sits now.

Sorry...trying to learn here, but what does that mean exactly, just replacing the stock suspension components with new ones? As in it's age has caused it to sag about an inch lower than when it was younger?

I would still like a little bit more clearance than stock, an inch or so...just not 3 inches. From what I've been reading, 3 inches or higher is where lifts start to get expensive, not to mention having to get larger tires. I want to keep my current tires, just not have them rub, and get just a bit of a visual lift. I'm assuming an inch or two would accomplish that, just not sure what kind of setup to go with.

FYI the wheels/tires are stock size, but the wheels themselves are aftermarket and I'm assuming the spacing is off and that's what's causing the rub I get on sharp turns.

What exactly are you rubbing on? If it's your frame/UCAs, lift won't help.

It rubs on the plastic lining on the inner wheel well (behind the tires, not in front). I actually just trimmed it yesterday and it got rid of the rubbing, but I would still like to lift the truck, if only for a bit more clearance off-road. Just don't want to go crazy with a higher, more expensive lift and have to throw money at larger tires, less mpg, etc.

1 inch would be nice, figure I could keep my wheels/tires and it wouldn't look out of place. Just gotta figure out the best way to do it

By trimming I mean I only had to cut a piece of plastic no bigger than 6 inches, and not visible from the outside unless you get down and look into the wheel well. When I bought the truck the dealer actually tried telling me that the rubbing sound was a normal "4x4 truck sound" lol. :jerkoff:

Coils and 5100s only give you ride height clearance which means its still gona rub. Just trim as needed and bash in that pinch weld.

I was in the same situation as you were -- with all the endless choices of struts and coil combos and leaf springs and AAL options - I choose to go with the KC General Springs in the rear and the Rancho Quicklift struts in the front for the 99% on road driving that I do

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rancho-general-hd-lift.406430/#post-12147142-

The other alternative I was looking at was to go with wheelers 5 pack rear springs and the recommended OME struts and wheelers recommended springs. I am curious if you are running 265/70 16 stock size tires or the slightly larger 265/75r -

Thanks @rmorit_DC_04, that's really helpful info. How much lift did you end up getting with that setup?

I'm running stock size tires but I believe the spacing on the wheels my truck came with is what caused the minor rubbing before I trimmed.

So my truck has 88K miles on it, with the v6 and I was experiencing axle wrap in the rear and my rear springs were flat. So my best guess is that I was 1" below stock height, so I ended up going from about 35" to 37.5 in the front and 38 in the rear (measured from the ground to the highest point of the fender).

So I was up about 1.5" to 2" - with a strut and spring I your level of accurate lift based on how far you current suspension has sagged is a guess. Either go to rockauto.com and get stock - since you will get a lift based on being sagged to start with or get an under 3" lift that is some where between" 1" and 2" -- the only other alternative would be to go with completely adjustable coilover or toytec boss to dial in exactly the lift you want but it won't be on a budget.

If i were you, I would get front shocks and springs from a 99 4runner. Rock auto has the Monroe for like 100.00 the limited runner will give you about a 1.0 lift just because of the coils. All bolt on no press needed.
Look at the pics under my name.
Add a leaf will raise the rear but the old springs should be replaced? I put the general HD . It raised the rear 1.5

    Good luck

    Yes, exactly.

If it were me, I would go with an adjustable coilover set at zero preload. At least initially. With an adjustable setup you can set it precisely the lift you want. Typical range of lift is 0-3" I'm not talking about 51000s. Rather a true adjustable like King or Fox or ADS.

I didn't even want any lift but with aftermarket stuff it all lifts it some. I went with the OME kit with 880's and NitroChargers all around. and Deaver J-59's in the back. It came out just about perfect for me. The 880's give about an inch and the Deaver's give about an inch. I didn't do any measuring before or after but I would bet I picked up a good two inches from the stock worn out suspension. I have a 2004 Regular cab with the 2.7. Here's a pick of how it sits now with a good 300# in the bed and the shell. Tires are stock size Michelin MS/2's.
