This is a bit of a rant.

4 weeks ago yesterday I plucked down the deposit (50%) for a new Jason cap. I decided to go with a Jason Cap because of price. The quote was more than $800 less than the local Leer and ARE dealers quoted me for the same options.

The salesman (Zag) told me it would be about 2 1/2 weeks for delivery. Cool. I can wait that long. After 2 weeks I called back just to check if it had come in. No luck, but said to check back that Thursday, so more waiting.

Things have been picking up at work, so no big deal. I waited until the appointed time and I called back again. Still no luck. I was assured that I would be called when it arrived.

Yesterday, 4 weeks of waiting now, I finally got a call near the end of the day. Yay! My cap was delivered on Tuesday the week prior (week 3). Zag (the name kills me) didn't call me because he had apparently decided to conduct employment elsewhere. He quit. Ok, no big deal, shit happens, got it. A little annoyed but nothing serious.

I make arrangements to go inspect it today. Around 11 am I show up and they show me the cap. It covered in a thick layer of dirt (yes dirt, not dust) sitting the middle of large dirt lot. I wiped a small section clean to check the color. Perfect match. Looked ok structurally, nothing major that I could see at the moment.

Unfortunately, because Zag had quit, the owner was now the only authorized installer. He was away and wouldn't be back until around 2 pm. I had to get back to work so I agreed to leave my truck there and have my wife take me back to work. Inconvenient, but I was finally about to get my cap, or so I thought.

Around 2:30 I get a call from the owner saying that there were some scratches I should look at before he installed it. Worried, I was hopeful that it was nothing serious at this point. He claims he found them while washing the cap. Got it.

I manage to get out of work early and my wife gets me there around 4pm. They close at 5pm. The scratches are more like gouges as they actually go into the fiberglass. There is well more than 10. The owner thinks they are probably from unloading when it arrived. I ask, "don't you do an inspection before you accept delivery?". That was Zag's job. But these deep deep scratches aren't even my largest concern.

It seems that while moving the cap the owner managed to find the only dumpster on what looks to about a 3 acre lot and introduce it to the lower, front, drivers corner of my cap. Almost an inch and half is caved in. At this point I am just ... well ... livid would seem to fit here.

So ... Tomorrow I am supposed to get a call that will let me know if 1) the cap can be fixed locally and how long that will take or 2) if the cap must be returned to the factory in Indiana and 3) how much he is going to take off the price of the cap to keep me from canceling the order altogether.

While the owner has been very apologetic, it has only served to make me more angry. I am reserving the dealer and owner names until all this pans out one way or another. I don't want to completely slam a small business owner until everything is said and done, but I must say it is not looking good for him up to this point.

Ok, that enough of a rant for now ;) thanks for reading!

tl;dr - Nothing, read it all! LOL ;)

Get your money back and go elsewhere, the capdealer sounds as if he may do a better job at selling meth.

Not much on mods - Leer 180, TRD wheels, Mobtown sliders, rear hitch, helper springs on the rear
Hopefully, you placed your deposit with a credit card. If the dealer won't issue a refund - then contact the bank which issued the credit card.

I think I would pull the plug on this deal.

No, I know I would pull the plug on this incompetent business.

Think your problems will multiply as time goes on if you go through with this.

I'll find out Friday what the final verdict is. Either it's right, or I get money back.

Unless you're buying a used cap, I wouldn't even accept a "new fixed" cap. If you payed for a new cap, you should get a new cap. Not a dirty scratched dented one.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I'd stop payment then see what develops if and when they ever get it together.

    Update!

So the cap is damaged beyond repair locally. Going down to the dealer in about an hour to get my money back.

I seem destined to never get one LOL!

    The hunt continues...
