Idling while refueling?

Wondering if anyone leaves there taco running while filling up for gas in freezing cold temps. Is this really a problem. if so how can it F up the truck?

 

Not sure about the law in Canada? Whats a CEL? Thanks

I don't know if Canada has the same law. I fueled up with the truck running in Korea.

Um....it's a fire hazard. I don't know about Canadian gasoline, but here in the states, gasoline and, especially the vapors, are pretty flammable. Your not much better than the people that smoke at the fuel pumps.

 

In the event common sense doesn't apply, let the red lettered signs near the pumps be your guide.

Shut the truck off for a few minutes. I know you can handle it.

 

he might be able to handle it, the truck, if it's cold enough won't....Korea had -40 temps...then again, it was a diesel truck.

 

Diesel has a MUCH higher flash point than gas- but even with that- I would be very VERY resistant to try and run a vehicle while fueling.

One slightly stripped wire and other short and you can blow the entire gas station up...Not a good idea.

 

if it is an all diesel refueling island..wtf? i have left it idling.

i shut off if there is gasoline nearby. seriously doubt anything will happen, but no sense making some people nervous.

 

for the time it takes to refuel your engine is not going to cool down that much unless its like absolute zero or something

 

...and not cool to others at the station who might be caught up in the risk takers gamble.

x2, and don't forget the idiots on their cell phone. They have been known to spark a fire as well.

You have not seen a fire until gasoline in open air get's going. Fumes are teh real danger and all it needs is a spark, static electricity is dangerous also. Best to not mess with gasoline in a careless manner or you could end up in a burn center somewhere, dead or seriously dis-figured for life.

 

I wonder how many people who posted not to do this will use their cell phones while at the pump. I'm not 100% sure but I believe that idiot sign tells you not to do that either. It also tells you to not open your car door while refueling because of static electricity. I think that running a car while fueling has only a slightly higher (but still insanely minimal) chance of igniting the gas station.

How many have every hear of a modern gas station blowing up from that. Their are safety precautions at gas pump so that a little static electricity doesn't blow up the whole station.

I think cigarettes are the worst though. I've seen ashes fall (or blow) almost into the nozzle. That's scary. I have no problem telling a person who's gonna light up at the pump to GTFO.

Be smart and obviously avoid any gas spills at a pump.
I don't run the truck at the station bc I'd rather be safe than sorry. If its that cold out usually I'll set the pump to fill itself and I'll hop back in the truck to avoid the cold. It at least takes the bite/wind chill away.

 

My dad has always left the vehicle running....winter, summer, spring, fall, rain, snow or shine.

I do if it's cold outside.

When I smoked when I was younger I was pumping gas with a smoke in my lips......never even realized it til the attendant came running out LOL
