The NBA had an incident similar to this situation this year when a player(rondo) called a ref a fag. Turns out the ref was indeed gay and the NBA suspended Rondo 1 game. I expect the NHL to follow suit with the NBA and suspend dipshit Shaw

 

Thats what ive been saying.

 

You play for the NHL. You're being televised nationally. No matter if you're a Crosby or a Thompson...you're upholding an image of the NHL as a whole. It's embarrassing to see shit like that when the NHL is at the bottom of the sports barrel to begin with.

My 10yo said "ooohhhhh!" when she saw Shaw give the bird and asked what he was saying when he was in the box.

 

To play devil's advocate , would it be any different if he called linesman Jay Sharrers a n*gger ? I don't see any difference in the context , if the NHL wants to support a no discrimination tolerance stance towards gay players in sports like the You Can Play initiative , then you can't be seen to just shrug this stuff off

 

You are correct. He probably should and will get a game. The only potential way he doesn't is because there was no live audio of what he said. Ill admit I didn't actually see this when it happened. I was watching the game but must have left the room when this went down.

I hear ya. While I personally refrain from using political incorrectness, especially where race and sex are concerned, I don't typically get busted up over hearing it. Specifically when I hear it during a hockey game. From my experience, the shit-talk that gets thrown around on the ice is meant to rattle people. If it doesn't than it is ineffective. It is the psychological part of the game and has been there since the beginning. While it doesn't make it right, I suppose I have habituated to it.

 

Yea While I use swear words with my buddies I don't expect for people in the public eye ie Andrew Shaw to use better judgement. Sure it be okay if he used them with his buddies & close friends, When he's on the ice and plays a sport he's is held to higher standards

 

and you know the media is just waiting for something like this to happen so they can sink their teeth into it.
