Apparently the last operator had two fatal crashes in 79 and close up shop. What a shame.

That is a shame for all parties involved. And that tends to happen with many small operators when people die.

BTW, I remember the landing, because it felt like we slammed into concrete and I thought we were going to die. Didn't know water was that hard. Apparently that was normal. There is always a bit of chop out there.

    wow, I'm jealous too.

In other news, the flying club at my school is planning a fly-out event to a place outside Kansas City for dinner next weekend. I'm pretty excited for that! I'm praying the weather will be nice!

Most likely 850's then. They have noise canceling powered through the hot mic (no batteries required) and have soft leather ear covers. The 750's do not have any noise canceling and the ear pieces are just covered in a light foam.

For real loud cockpits, the David Clarks work. A company called Oregon Aero offers some upgrade kits to add better passive noise reduction to headsets like David Clarks and also makes them more comfortable. I have a pair of 13.4's with some Oregon Aero upgrades which make them a lot nicer to wear.

Water is incompressible, so the harder you hit it...the harder it hits back. I think Mr. Newton said something about it.

No. I was near the western boundary of the park so whatever they were were over Idaho. Mountain Home AFB is there, also Hill AFB in Utah isn't too far away....figured they were out practicing maneuvers or something. Only saw them for a couple of minutes, didn't have time to change to my 400mm lens

Thanks for the info on the headsets. In the past, it was the headsets that could make or break a flight (except a biplane).

I like big (over the ear) D/C's or Bose with good N/C features. I have a bad case of tinnitus from the military and good headsets are a must or I would go nuts.

If someone wanted to torture me, put me in a sound proof room (pure silence) and my ears would feel like they are going to explode.

Have to have "back ground sound" ... 24/7/365. VA gave me a cool sound generator (with pillow speakers) to sleep. I have great hearing, but it is coupled with tinnitus.

Morale of this post is ... "Protect Your Ears" ... from the loud aircraft, runway & etc. noise's ... or you pay later.

My buddy used to fly F16s out of Mountain Home and did maneuvers against F18s. And kill them repeatedly. He also had an engine failure out there and had to limp home gliding for quite a distance. If you used any throttle, the whole plane shook. Got it back on the deck safely.

If you're looking for headsets, I suggest Lightspeed Zulu 2's or their newer model Zulu PFX. I have the Zulu 2's for GA flying, and sometimes in the jet, and they are my favorite. N/C is amazing, the bluetooth music quality is great, and in my opinion they are more comfortable than Bose over long flights. I have also had great experience with their customer service when something broke and all maintenance on the headset is free.

    I recommend.
