When you come down south take a look at my dual battery/fridge set-up. Camping is SO much better.

JT is a nice park, but it's severely overused, and the organized campgrounds are a complete zoo, at least in the fall, IMO. My wife and I usually plan an annual trip there for late October.

I'm shooting for one of those as well Friday night. Hopefully you can grab one, and we'll grab the other.

Yeah, JT is awesome but way too crowded. That's why we usually bypass the park and head into Old Dale BLM area where it's open and people are few and far between.

Yeah, every time I've been it's been empty with no signs of others. Guess everyone is getting in one last hurrah before it's gets too warm. Supposed to be nice this weekend!

I'm trying to go to yosemite this summer. I went during all the fires and couldn't see anything due to smoke. Are there any trails around there?

I am absolutely done with camping in JT campgrounds during prime time. 2014 was the last time for us, and we only did that because extended family was with us who were not outfitted for back country travel.

Go. I take my family there every year in the summer. Park is very large, lots to see and do. The valley is crazy busy in the summer, but it's fun to visit for at least part of one day. We usually picnic and swim in the Merced river. Lots of people from all over the country and world come to visit. I like to enjoy a refreshing ice cream, and sit outside the store and talk to people to see where they all come from.

    A little a this, a little a that...
Yosemite is one of my favorite places. I try to go about once a year but haven't been in a while due to the drought and fires. Me and the family are going over Father's Day weekend this year.

There's some trails around the park. Pick up a Stanislaus NF map. A couple years ago I did the Old Yosemite road, which is the original road to the park. I think it's called Old Coulterville Rd too. Takes you from 120 on the west side into Foresta and then you can take go north into Yosemite or South to El Portal. I recommend going south and then looping around through the park. It's a very easy but very pretty drive with views of half dome and some cool bridges and waterfall crossings.
