Finished up my homemade spare tire carrier for the bed for my 285. It's been a long process from design to welding the finishing pieces. It's removable and has a hinge that allows it to be elevated and the bed to be used. Stole the idea from a thread on this wonderful forum. Needs some paint and then it's finally done!

Supposed to be laser formed or something, makes me wonder though how often they remeasure cause the 2nd Gen hasn't changed much. I just know in my 13 there's a gap at the kick panel. Hoping summer heat will bring it out.

Does the hinge lock? If not I foresee that tire becoming a heavy fast moving projectile in an accident...

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
I highly recommend getting a tailgate reinforcement. I don't carry an thing heavy in my bed but I some how still bent some of the brackets in the tailgate.

I took the plastic off to examine the pre-wired tailgate handle camera & noticed its a different & a lot thinner plastic then the bed!

The only difference to me was the price. I hear ppl say the weathers feel more plastic and husky more rubber.

Maybe that's why the pic of the husky look tighter? Rubber = more flex.
