Wait until most vehicles have 8 speed transmissions, then let's here all the shifting complains. That's not really a quality issue. Water in the plate light? An issue but would I take a 6k hit on it over that? Not at all. Sounds like petty stuff to me. I could see if his engine needed new heads or he blew out his rear end or something. Every manufacture has issues. Chryslers have a lot more issues than Toyota. I used to work at a Chrysler dealer. Only automaker I think I seen more problems with was Chevy and that's because they sell more vehicles. I'd take a Toyota any day over any Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, or Ram

Just curious - why did you go from a 12 to a 16 and then you owned 2 before that?

No issues with my 2012 but it's not really stock ..

The first few years of a new generation are always a crap shoot. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it's a disaster, sometimes it's just a never-ending string of minor annoyances.

If I was to get a Cherokee it would the exact setup you have. That Granite Gray with black wheels, sharp as hell and I dont see many around.

I would like to thank everyone for their comments. I knew I would get some kickback but oh well. Just to clarify, I went to work for the local Toyota Dealership in June of 2015 where I bought my 2016. I put in the a special order for the Inferno without test driving one based on my history with owning 3 previous tacomas. I left the dealership in Oct for another job. I took delivery of the truck in Dec 2015. Two weeks later the problems started with water in the tag lights (as some have said no big deal) went and had replaced. After a month, again more water and more tag lights.
After about 2500 miles the dreaded vibration when slowing started and trans started the eratic slippping and the low end power could never get use to. Last month went back for more water in tag lights and was told they would not replace due to not wanting to qualify for lemon law and they set up appointment with Toyota rep. The more I thought about the truck I decided on the Jeep because my daughter owns one and has had no problems. I drive them at work along with other Chrysler products and have found the Cherokees and Ram 1500's to be smooth and nice power on the low end. All brands have problems now days and I guess I could have kept taking the toyota back for more tail lights or filed a lemon law case but I didn't want to have to pay out for a Lawyer and in the mean time drive a truck that I hated to now drive. I got a 9000 discount on the jeep due to year model 2015 and it was a demo for sales manager so I used that to rectify the 6000 loss on the truck. The trans or motor may fall out of the jeep tomorrow but I decided to buy it with an agreement from the dealership to add the bumper to bumper warranty for 7 yrs or 120,000 miles. I have a friend with a 2015 Pro Inferno and I wish I would have tried to find one. I love the color, love the new beefier look, the inside of the truck but I guess my ocd got the best of me on the power band and even with the etc on it still felt sluggish.

    This made me lolzzz.

One is a totally impractical lifestyle vehicle with almost zero utility value, the other is an unbelievably practical pickup truck.

Umm, the 3rd gens also weigh anywhere from 400-800lbs more the the first gens. So they weigh more, are safer , faster and haul more at the same or better mpg then 1st gen. Seems pretty solid to me.

I drive a Tacoma with a manual transmission. So, forgive my ignorant question.

Does the current Tacoma with an automatic transmission have the option to switch off the ECT - which would allow the driver to keep the transmission in 5th or 4th gear - when traveling up a steep gradient?

Why wasn't the OP using this pseudo - manual select mode - when needed?

I keep seeing this pop up everywhere. This was a plague of the 2nd gen also (my truck included). I saw a couple people mention it a few weeks ago, then in the past couple weeks and this week I keep seeing more and more. I've been waiting 9 years for Toyota to figure this out, and ole Sweers swore up and down the vibes of the 2nd gen are gone. Well here we are. I've been considering a 3rd gen in '18 or '19, but damn I don't know anymore.

I've driven three of them so far. They all had vibes, especially the one with a manual.

Wouldn't that be overdrive. He could use the S mode- which essentially does what you are talking about
