Ahhhhhh X( that sux! Lol you can see it jump and smash the lower control arm. Similar thing happened to my truck. It was a flat rock but one side of it had a cone shape sticking out. It happened to be on the side I drive my truck over. I was clearing the rock at first with only an inch or two of space between the cone shape and my skid plate. But according to my spotter, the weight of my front driver side wheel pivoted the flat part of the rock to where the cone shape part of the rock poked up and started scraping my skid plate. that's he says at least..... Lol bad eyes if you ask me

    Thanks!

As far as I know, the Toyota dealer doesn't sell shells. I bought it from the local SnugTop dealer. It's a Rebel with many of the options. Total was $3k with tax and installation, but I think $1000 of that was options: Folding down front slider window, ventilated windoors both sides, reinforced roof with tracks, power rear lock wired to the truck's locks, headliner. If you are interested in the details, I can dig up the threads.

No thank you. That is a bad ass shell though. Had no idea they came with all that stuff. I prefer the need to be open myself. But if I ever need a shell, I guess this is the place to get ideas

What a freak deal. Rocks are so unforgiving. The battle scar will be easily fixed, and your son will never forget the trip. Thanks for sharing the videos.

Your truck says Off Road on the side. If they don't cover it, threaten to sue.

TRD ORs have been warranty denied for mud on the frame rails.

    Legal or not, shit happens.

I was only joking, but that's ridiculous. What about people that live on dirt roads? Was Toyota notified about that case?

In this case it was dried mud inside the frame rails that caused warranty denial.

He's a member here but I don't remember who it was, this was last year or the year before.

Other members like @Sacrifice go in for service and get notes in their service file about "extensive offroad modification," which sets him up for future warranty issues - and IIRC, he was stock except a plate bumper back then. No lift, and bolt on items only.

I find this entire premise unbelievable. I have been following the TW third gen threads long enough to know that manual transmissions are infallible.

This is all interesting info. I remember reading something in my 2011 owner's manual or supplement where if the truck has something like "extreme operating conditions" that there are different maintenance specs like check the torque on suspension components and the like. Its surprising with that in the manual that they'd give anyone crap about some mud on frame rails or a scratched skid plate.

We'll show you commercials with off-road use and dirt bikes, market it as an off-road truck, give you skid plates, rear-locker, downhill assist, crawl control, and even call it an off-road package, but keep it on the road will ya!

Edit: its "Special Operating Conditions - driving on dirt or dusty roads"
