So after reading 146 post what I gather is that not everyone is having the same problems with the new 2016 Tacomas, about 50 of you are pissed that he bought a Chrysler/Jeep product, and a select group that no matter how many problems the new Tacomas have, either dont care or have the attitude that damn it, its a Toyota.

On a Ford, it's called the select mode. The general idea is to shift down to 5 or 4 to keep the vehicle out of overdrive when traveling up a steep gradient.

The ECT is programmed for fuel mileage - but can wind up hunting between the two top gears at certain speeds when traveling up a steep gradient. If someone finds this to be objectionable, then by using human intelligence, select the manual shift mode.

I also noticed that the OP's complaint was this occurring while using cruise control. In other words, he was totally in the auto-pilot mode.

Didn't the 8 speed transmission in the cherokee have its own problems when it came out in 14? Point, i dont buy anything thats in the first year, or even second year. I do applaud anyone who jumps on the wagon first, as they take the brunt of the bugs for the rest of us.

My 2006 had no driveline vibes but a bunch of TSBs (Squeaky brakes, sagging springs, rattling intake etc).
I'm sure am pretty damn positive whoever bought that truck off the dealer lot has a new frame now to boot.
My current 2013, I had to drive quite a few trucks before I found one that didn't vibe.
Mine did eventually pick up the "vibe" & Toyota's response was "it's normal." Why Thank you Toyota! :)
    So welcome 2016s!!
I test drove a few 3GENs because I'm sick spender at times & wanted to see all new design, actually was pretty excited about it.
My friend who sells em let me drive any 3GEN I wanted (though he couldn't keep the trucks on the lot, they fly off up here in the Northeast).
I didn't mind the truck at all, the price is what freaked me out the most, 10k more than I paid for 2013 TRD OR 4WD DCSB.
As an active member here on good ol' TW, I think I'll wait it out and drive my 2013 into the ground just like I did my 95.
That truck is still on the road today god bless her. She looks like $h!t though and needs a facelift.

OP I guess you did what was best for you and hope you have many troublefree miles with your JGC.

There is problems with all vehicles! I had a 2013 F150 in shop 3 times for 4 wheel drive issues and steering wheel controls, 2015 Ram Rebel 1500 throttle went out on busy interstate in Houston second day of ownership, then month later rearend went out, then wheel bearing in front. All issues had to go into shop!
Now I have a 2016 Tacoma with 10,000 miles and it has only had to go in shop for oil change! Sure I want my transmission checked, but overall I'm happy as hell! I am not easy on my trucks and I drive hard! I'm getting between 19-23 MPG and sure it has some things that could be better but I like it!
Just remember grass isn't always greener on other side!

yeah if I had a good second gen now, I dont think I would trade in for a 2016...but in my case, I needed a new car because I hydroplaned my 02 landcuiser into a jersey wall on 485... I saw the 15s on the lot, but the old body style and same tech sold me on a "more" efficient 2016.

That scenario right there, never seen anything like it, but I would have walked away from it. It is not in the buyer's favor for assessing if what it is what you want/need nor pricing. That's a feeding frenzy. Reminds me of the lead-up to the housing crash. People worry and lose their minds, and make terrible decisions they regret later.

Down vehicles is a bitch, but I would sooner fix one of them or buy a cheap, used, reliable older Toyota or Honda car for the short term to deal with life, then continued on a search for the long-term purchase, and resell the cheap car.

I have owned and test driven 4 Toyota trucks and never experienced any vibes, only the axle wrap situation on my 1st GEN and it was cured by using Amsoil grease

And this is exactly what the Toyota brand has been about, but after a 93, an 01, and now a 15, and reading several gazillion posts here (extreme abusers aside), Toyota ain't what it used to be. I think they are coasting on brand loyalty now, and lack the motivation to provide real quality and features to back that up, especially in the mid/small truck market segment.

    Hey it could be profitable!
During the test drive, slap some @KB Voodoo products on it and hand the sales guy a bill.
Don't forget to add the grease job.:facepalm:

    I've owned a '98, '05, 09, and '13 Taco, and a '07 FJ, and a '15 T4R.

And I think you're kinda right. Even the '15 T4R is kind of "crappy". The 3rd Gen Taco is even worse.

That said.....what else are you going to buy? A Colorado? A Ridgeline? No F-ing way.....

You know, I've thought about marketing my products to dealers, but that would be like selling my soul to the devil.
