Max, if you don't want to mount an external antenna for your HAM radio, at the very least, I HIGHLY recommend getting an aftermarket antenna for your Baofeng. Stock duckie antennas SUCKA$$ for TX/RX (i.e. transmit/receive), especially on TX!!! An aftermarket antenna is, by FAR, much, much more efficient AND you will actually increase TX'ing range because of that efficiency!!! An aftermarket antenna does NOT cost all that much and an antenna such as the Nagoya's is the one that I would recommend for the Baofeng. The Nagoya NA-771, for example, is a very good antenna (NOTE: you may need a female-female SMA barrel adapter... please see the pics for an example of "my" radio setup). MOST, if not ALL, Baofeng radios that I know of have a "male connector", hence, if the antenna has a male connector then you will need the female-female adapter!!! Here is a link for example. I never bought from them before, but they seem to be reputable?

    http://www.buytwowayradios.com/products/nagoya/NA-771-SMAJ.aspx

Ask away with any questions Max, okay! Talk to you later bro.

Btw, I have other handhelds (i.e. various tri-bander Yaesu's) that I can use this antenna on, which is why I bought the antenna with the male connector end! Most other radio manufacturers have a female connector!!! Even though this antenna is a 2-band I can still use it for the tri-band radio's 2m/70cm freq spectrum!!! Soooooooo, I hope this doesn't confuse you??? If anything, remove your antenna, take a picture, post it here, and I will let you know what you need, okay. I hope I was of some help!?

You are the man! You got all the facts! Where were you when I had science in high school? Or better yet communications??

WileEcoyote I will have a question for you very soon regarding what to do about a permanent modification the past owner did for his CB!

I had a Wilson mag mount and got the swr to 1.5-2. I just switched to a firestik with 18' coax and when I try to tune it the swr is at 4 no matter what! When I remove the ground the swr goes perfect?? Lol...I tried two different coax cables and tested them. The ground tested good and the antenna stud is not grounding out

That's very odd, because it sounds as if you have the exact same setup that I have?! A magmount, if you don't already know, "magnetically couples" the trucks shell to GND. With the cables being good (i.e. two of them for that matter), the stud not grounding out!!!??? Do you have the plastic washer/spacer for the antenna stud in the correct spot??? Just ask'n :notsure:

My former employer had an issue with an extremely HIGH SWR for the CB radio in the semi-truck that they use for demoing their product. My boss bought a brand NEW CB radio and asked me to install it for the truck driver to use. I install the CB and it STILL had a HIGH SWR??? I then went to the CB antenna, uhhhhhhhh, W.T.H. is this???!!! The plastic washer was in the wrong spot! Re-assembled the antenna lug/stud and the SWR went back down to where it is supposed to be. I got it back down to around 1.7 or so.
