B-Dub - are you running any spacers, or it that just the 255/85 ST Maxx on the stock TRD offroad wheel? (Looks good, BTW)

Running the older Cooper S/T tire in 255/85R16 on 8x16 Method wheels 4.0" backset (zero offset). I can make it rub only when really crosed up and so slight I don't worry about it. My factory mud flaps are removed as is the sway bar. No cab mount chop.

If you want to REALLY improve off road traction remove that sway bar. Tacoma is no race car, let it flex and see how good it can be off-road. Yes, without the sway bar it does lean a bit on the street, but if you are buying serious off-road tires you should let them work by getting the independent wheel articulation it is capable of. Each of us has our own preferences.

Thanks guys. That's really helpful. My plan is either to run BDub's setup (but with a 3/1.5 lift) or run OEM steelies off a 3rd gen 4runner (16X7, about 4.5 bs/15mm offset, I think) to push them out a little bit.

I thought that it had got rid of all of it but saw a little patch of shine on the passenger side...

Lots of good info been trying to decide myself love the look of the 255/85 over the stock 265/70. Would 265/75/16 fit stock without rubbing as well? I don't want a lift my truck it is 90% street and 10% offroad beach sand some packed some loose and soft. The beach has deep rut from the heavy trucks my stock OR tire(rugged trails) do ok be looking to improve and a small amount of sidewall height would be nice. I do want anything that wide as gas miles is a big factor as so much time on the street.

265/75-16 will fit perfectly on your stock truck and is even arguably the better size for your speedo to be most accurate.

For 90% road I'd highly recommend that you get a all-season tread like the Michelin MS2 rather than some macho tardation of a mud terrain because it looks cool.

I only mention this because you mentioned gas mileage and your tread pattern will affect that more than a few mm of width difference. Weight will also be a big factor in that decision.

Never heard of 255s being the correct tire for the speedometer. I used a GPS to see the speed offset on the Guage when I first got my set and I start to loose accurate on my gauge at 60-65 mph and up. Not much though. I keep my needle on 70 to go 75

265/75-16 is the size he was asking about. It's just a +1 size to stock. 1" taller than stock helps to offset the slightly low reading speedo a hair. It's about a 3% difference.

Going up to 255/85-16 is more like a 7.5% difference and will mean you're going faster than your speedo reads. At 65 mph reading you'd actually be going around 70 or so.

Thanks I like a deeper tread pattern for my 10% offroad I ended running Cooper at3 on my last taco after getting stuck a few times with the stock tires on my old SR5 and was really pleased with Coopers. I decided to give the stock OR tires on my 2015 a chance before changing but missing the Coopers offroad and on road traction was better. There are so many tire on the market it is tough to try and decide plus what size is best for my needs thanks for the advice.

Sounds about right. I use a navigation gadget to determine true speed and it reads 75 MPH when my 2012 odometer says 71 mph. I went to 4.56 ring and pinions and prefer to stay under 75 (unless I just can't). Not sure how much is tire diameter and how much is the gears....
