Just ordered some of the trail toys mirrors. Pretty pumped to be able to see around the FJ.

How are you liking yours so far Scott?

I just saw that a few minutes ago. I like what they do in terms of clearing up that blind spot but getting used to the fish eye look in the mirror takes some getting used to. Even more so for the FJ mirrors since they are vertical. I like them though, the highway driving I did this weekend helped alot.

Nice. I don't think the FJ is bad at all actually. I'm almost buying then just because I can't see dick when getting off mass pike east to 495 south. That toll interchange sucks

Just do what everyone else in this state does, pedal down and slowly drift into the lane. Don't worry about that truck coming, he'll stop and let you in.

Took this a few minutes ago you can see the car in the window and still on the mirror. You can sorta make out the fisheye effect on the wheel of the car. There are certain approaches where you notice the distortion much more but that's what you start to get used to.

Question about replacing brakes....my F150 needs some new rotors. Machined them once and got an addition 10K miles out of them, they are starting to warp and I'm slowly getting a worse and worse shake under braking (especially coming up to an off ramp on the highway).

That said, the rear rotors are still fine - I get the mechanics of braking and how the front do most of the work, but if I am replacing rotors and pads, should I do the rears too so they all match, or is it more of a "replace only what you need to" when it comes to that? I may put new pads on the rear regardless so the thickness is the same all around, but the rotors are what I am worried about.

If they are still good no need to replace them

I just replaced the fronts on my F150, pads and rotors. I was going to have them machined but the cost was so close to buying new I just went all new. If the rears are fine, don't worry about them. I only did the fronts and didn't touch the rears other than to confirm the pads and rotors have enough thickness to be safe. The difference in pad thickness front to back will not be noticeable in the least bit as long as the pads have life left in them. I bought Autozone blank rotors and I can't recall if I got ceramic or semi-metallic pads. They were one level below their 'best' pad and I say that in quotes because, to them, best simply means it's a long life pad. I tend to avoid those because they are very hard and chew up rotors in my experience. The swap was pretty simple, it took me about 2 - 3 hours total in my driveway working alone including setup time and putting my tools away.

Just out of curiosity, how many miles did you get out of the fronts? I had about 63k miles on the fronts when I replaced the pads and rotors. Rotors could have been machined, pads were shot.

I always change front and rear together. Not that it needs to be done that way. But for an extra few bucks why not.

I was looking around and could only find duralast on their site - $74/rotor. This sounds similar to what you used? I can easily do it, but still want to remain as cheap (and safe) as possible - new tires in the near future and don't want to burn through my funds for those if I can avoid it.

Edit: I am just over 50K but had my rotors resurfaced at 35K (free through the dealership). Guessing the guy who owned it before me liked to ride the slow pedal.

Cause it's a lot more than a few extra bucks. Pads for the rear are $60/pr, rotors are about $90/ea.

Anyone else do the Walden Farms meat delivery? We got out first delivery yesterday and I'm quite pleased. Lots of good stuff, along with instructions on how to cook all of it since its much leaner than store bought meat, and they even threw in a meat thermometer.

Duralast is their house brand. Their website isn't up to date with all the options. There are 3 levels of pads you can buy and 2 different rotors. I went with the lower level rotors and the middle of the road pads. The higher priced rotors were just a different compound so they were black (whoop-de-doo), the middle of the road pads were a low dust pad so I went with those. I think I was into the project for $220 with a bottle of DOT3.

I feel your pain on tires... This has been an expensive month for my truck. Transmission service, alignment, pads, rotors, wheels and tires.

Never heard of it. How's the pricing compared to store bought meat?
