+1 on connections. probably positive needs some wiggle and tightening.

single click is a bad connection, lots of clicks is low battery voltage

 

I would like to see it not starting if possible... If its clicking but not turning, either only 1 of these two things.... Battery shot, but you said had 13vdc when you had the problem last so that's out... Or heavy carbon buildup on the tip of the starter solenoid causing it to click and the solenoid may actually extend, but the the end of it where it closes the circuit to turn the starter motor has so much build up it isn't making contact... Which is starter failure

 

The thing that makes me think it's not his starter is that this happened only after he swapped batteries. Was working fine before. Anything's possible though.

 

This is a big possibility and for a starter to crap right after a battery swap is kind of a reach... But a connection that was faulty would likely cause other problems... The main positive wire, is crimped in with all the other wires as well, unless he has done terminal replacement work, which I hadn't asked but should have. It is at this time assumed that all connections I'm the crimp are solid since the truck starts when boosted, runs, and drives but refuses to restart with a "healthy" battery. If it were a poor connection, a booster pack would not likely get around that... A poor connection is a poor connection, regardless of booster or not. Could also be a bad ground to the frame and engine block or any other place in the earthing system... Its all speculation at thus point but I would like to see the truck and I can point out the problem for him... I can even source him a starter..

 

Yup, that's why it would be good for him to re-check the only connections he undid first. I hope it's not the starter.

 

I hope everybody in here is aware I don't charge for diagnostics, work, etc... I work for beer and tips only after hours... It'd behoove all you guys to see me for free diags

My last attempt at jumping it failed and was forced to tow it home last night.

Well the sooner the better but whenever is convenient for u. In the meantime I'll check all my connections and hopefully it'll resolve itself.

 

What does the voltage drop to while turning the ignition?

 

Did you try the second battery? That would rule out the batteries.

 

Plus didn't you change the negative battery connector? Check there.

 

A loose wire on the positive battery terminal that went to the starter was the culprit. I tighten the shit out of it and everything works normally. Thanks everyone for your help and input.
