    EXACTLY why I LOVE Oregon!
it doesn't have the Mountains like Colorado, and I love Colorado... but it's so much more diverse! Coast, DENSE Forrest, Valley, High Desert... all within about a 2-3hr drive depending on what direction you go

Would the cheapest dual battery setup be to use say a 200amp isolator and appropriate fuses to each battery?
I have no desire to look at an LED display or any of the extra doo-dads these dual battery kits contain since this setup will only be temporary as once i finish school i am building another camper van and the truck is being sold to my dad.

the second battery will power a fridge, amplifier, a small inverter, and about 3 LED light sources

    A little a this, a little a that...
It blows my mind how many folks go crazy with tons of armor, SAS, huge tires, etc. for an "overlanding" vehicle. To me, all the added weight, cost and complexity seems antithetical to the experience.

Meh my vehicle is primarily a wheeling vehicle that can get me overland reliably. Def don't think you need full skids/SAS to overland. Depends on your build goals, right?

I will fully skid, slider, and bumper my rig for various reasons. Mostly just in case. I want a winch so front bumper there. I need a full size spare so rear bumper, and I'm skidding it up with aluminum to save weight. I don't plan on smashing into rocks, but if I do, I'll be damn happy I have that stuff. Sliders are just to stop runaway shopping carts lol.
    Same here!

It doesn't count as a trip if you don't wear Khaki head to toe And everybody you pass has to Know You Mean Business!

But there are a variety of variables.

Lots of time to research/plan/mod on evenings/weekends versus the time/opportunity to do longer trips.
Covering a variety of uses (harder wheeling + camping + DD + Family + longer trips)
As I said, gotta "Look the Part"
Adding the in-things to rigs that were built in another direction already

Which rig do you think got more looks on this weekend trip? But which one has F&R lockers/hidden winch/lower gears/more aggressive tires?

Maybe it's true fro overlanding but I see sliders as the FIRST piece of armor to get IMO for any real wheeling. Having a pivot point on rocks and a jacking point for the highlift makes me love my sliders. I have done some pretty gnarly trails with only sliders and tires, and even gnarlier with sliders, tires, skids still on 265's. But I assume for an overlanding trip the goal is to reach remote destinations/cover a ton of ground so I can see where sliders won't matter as much.

I take it pretty easy, but my sliders have their fair share of gouges. They come in handy even on pretty moderate trails.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Skids were my first part of armor for wheeling.

Sliders would have been nice too.
