$150 for the retube and balance with .083 wall, and $50 for the shaft from the junkyard.

Its different on a first gen, the gas tank hangs lower. I was going to get a 1 piece from High Angle Driveline after my crawler and jess talked me out of it for all the reasons i listed. I don't know how you guys are roasting through carrier bearings, i am on number 2 in 10yrs and i think i got a cheapass one in there now.

87 IFS 4runner. But you can find them on any first gen pickup/4runner front.

Gotcha. I haven't personally burned through a bearing but after I retubed my 2 piece for a spare driveshaft it makes all sorts of terrible noise when it runs unloaded. And I've seen other tacomas have issues with them so I opted to stick with the 1 piece

I ran my two piece last year at big dogs offroad and smashed the bottom of it and have yet to get it retubed

Couldn't help but think how that video would've went if the doors had locked when you got out.

Yea my rear shaft on my two piece is bent to hell, the 80 axle with its offset and slightly lower pinion caused me to start smacking it into rocks that i never used to touch before the swap. Wheeled 6yrs with the only damage to the shaft is breaking off the grease zerk, in 3 runs with the 80 axle its now bent, tore the metal dust cover off and its slightly candy cained.

Since my shackle flip and XJ shackle swap my ass is up high and a vibration started just after takeoff. I dealt with this on my last Tacoma that had a DB lift. I roasted 2 carrier bearings in under 3 years and I fear that im going to do the same with this build.

Sure, ive thought about dropping the CB, but that just makes me stress when I get into difficult waterfall climbs and rock beds.

Cut the leaf spring perches off and set your pinion angle properly and weld new ones back on.

Ok, thats a lot if work but doable. Do you just take a measurement off the back of the trans and match that angle off the 3rd?

The pinion should be parallel with the tcase with a 2 piece shaft

Point the pinion at the flange at the carrier bearing. Its not too bad, its like an afternoon worth of work. Longest part will be dropping the rear axle and grinding the weld off the housing after you cut the perch off.

This is how i setup the 80 axle and it had zero vibes until i dented the crap out of the shaft. Tom woods driveline has some good tech on this subject, read up there. Cutting and re welding is the best way to fix it, dropping carrier bearings and shims are just band aides

The work will be done by myself and Brandon who owns Avid. I have no doubt we can do it. Its just scheduling up the time to do so.
We did all of this in a weekend
    IMG_20160228_153311.jpg

Ive been trying to get on the lift to swap my rear break lines and do some other minor details with the resi mounts and resis in the front and rear. I also need to drop the coils and measure and add some preload.
I really only have Saturdays to do it and the last few have been dealing with family sickness and the honey-do list.

This may be something I leave for after the bumper builds. I really want to get those going and have that time scheduled in May before the expo.

If you are going to adding a anything heavy to rear end of the truck, i would set the pinion angle last. Heavy bumpers, tire carriers, RTT etc may fix the issue for you.

Yeah I'm planning on stick with the two piece drive shaft. We already set the pinion angle but won't really know if it is long enough until we have the first piece shortened. Still have to get a cv shaft for the front and have the long spline section added. Hope to do that and have the rear 3rd regeared next week
