At risk of sounding like a naysayer, I would recommend holding off until 2017 for the Pro (or just 17 models in general). The issues may or may not be widespread, but they certainly exists, and waiting until 2017 gives Toyota that much more time to figure out ways to fix them. That's the recommendation of a guy who loves his truck, but hates all of the issues I've been having with it. :(

Are you trying to say that people don`t like crybabies that are stupid enough to keep something that they hate? :notsure:

Nothing is universally beloved. Pretty sure even world peace and paid time off would get a few dissenting opinions lol

Thought about that, but like some folks have already pointed out... pretty sure Toyota isn't going to be in a huge hurry to fix some of the "issues". Same was true for the second Gens (leaf spring squeak, blower motor chirp, etc...)

Don't hold your breathe for anything being different on the 2017s, how long did problems persist on previous gens before Toyota admitted to having a problem and creating TSBs to repair them? I would say if you hold out until the 2018 you may at least see the diff/tranny underfilled problem go away. :D

Bummer. This is my first tacoma, so I wasn't aware of their laggy response times with fixes. At the end of the day these trucks are known for their reliability and longevity. Toyota has a vested interest in keeping us happy and satisfied. It's under warranty and I will be, at a minimum, requesting an extended warranty for mine. I hope I dont live at a dealership service department for the next few years. :)

Maybe a lift and some big fat tires will drown out the vibrations and rattles.

“Are you a professional certified tech?”
For the better part of some 20 yrs I was a master tech, certified with actual on hands experience in both automotive, diesel\heavy equipment. Factory trained by GM, Ford, Cummings, Moog, and various other oem manufacturers.
I’ve spent some 40+ years in the industry starting from the ground up working for both Goodyear & Firestone and finishing my career in charge of repair and maintenance of a rather large fleet of all kinds of diverse equipment.
So yeah, I may know a thing or two about mechanical issues.
“Mine was 1 quart low and I had shifting delays from forward to reverse and reverse to forward”
I’m glad your problem went away.
But most likely it was just a coincidence you brought it in just as the ECM was getting its parameter adjusted to your driving.
And if I may add, for those ppl experiencing engine sluggishness or performance issues, let me just remind everyone that we’ve been having some wicked weather extremes since the truck was first released and that gas is formulated to work for a predicted weather a couple months ahead, and we all know by now just how unpredictable it has been. In addition, you have some ppl constantly changing brands or to no brands for the cheapest price. And gas is only good for about a month in your tank without any additional octane additives. Just something to consider...
You also have ppl that fill up the tank and don’t go anywhere, or only put a couple hundred miles a month on that same tank. It all has a bearing, it all adds up to performance or the lack thereof.
I myself use only use one brand (regular) from only 1-2 retailers in my area with the lowest price. When I travel out of town, I still use or try my hardest to stick to the same brand.
I’ve never had to replace my fuel pump or even clean my injectors in some 20 yrs. The 13yr old 4runner I traded for my ’16 Taco had almost 200k with no engine performance issues or repairs.

“Just worried that if you are not a technician and you are giving this advice you may steer someone in the wrong direction that may really have a problem”…

Nothing to worry about there, I wouldn’t intentionally mislead ppl like that. I mean what I say, my truck won’t be going to the dealer for trans fluid level ck unless something goes seriously wrong.
Nor will I take it for regular maintenance, minor issues, or general hysteria or rumors starter by someone on a forum.
But I did bring my truck back to the stealership the day after I bought it to top off the tires as they had 29psi and I wanted 3psi below max rated load pressure of 44psi which they put in at 41psi all nitrogen because I can’t get a hold of it to keep at home.

I don't get the whole diff/tranny issue. Of course I understand the frustration of buying a new vehicle (especially one that costs this much) that is low on fluids, but it's really not that big of a deal. Take it to the dealer, or fill it up, then it's done. No need to piss and moan about it for the rest of the life of the vehicle.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
Today I took the Tacoma on a 300 mile day trip and it was flawless with no more "clunks or thuds" in drive shaft area.

It was a dream to drive on the interstate.

Mileage = I averaged 22.2 MPG on Tacoma computer (on interstate w/ small to medium hills & valleys @ 72 MPH w/ 87 oct) ... and it was 22.74 MPGs when calculated manually on "gallons & miles & math" ... and end of the day it was at 24.1 MPG on truck computer.

Having only about 725 miles on truck and when it is broken in later, with synthetic oil and a cool, dry day on a flat road at 55-60 ... I bet I could get 26 MPGs and maybe more.

I calculated my mileage 3 ways today to triple check it and it varied very, very little (maybe .1 MPG in various calculations).

    Love this truck ... :D

PS ... Not to beat a dead horse :deadhorse: but my buddy who bought a GMC Canyon wants to sell it and buy a Tacoma ... :)

His Canyon is pretty, but has been in the shop several times for crazy stuff. I think GM is having problems with their "vendor quality" which can really hurt them as most people don't understand "vendor QC problems" and blame it on GM.

The company (w/ mass produced vehicles) with the "tightest vendor QC control" is Lexus.

Sooooo ... let this wisdom permeate the souls of the Tacoma non-believers and trolls.

So let it be written ... so let it be done ... :D

I went on an almost 200 mile trip yesterday, terrain was pretty hilly in parts, trip mpg's were a little over 24mpg. I filled up when I got home and it was probably 80/20 city/highway, and the tank was 20.4. No excessive shifting, truck rode great.
