Does anyone have any experience with shipping a truck? I am buying a truck out of state and I am looking into having it shipped instead of flying and picking it up.

I friend had her car shipped from CA to MD, military relocation.

It wasn't that big of a deal, just make sure your car insurance covers anything and the trucking company insures it too.

It was pretty expensive though. I think she paid about $3000...

$3000 is outrageous. The most expensive we have shipped is a Frontier from Orange County, CA to Miami, FL for $1200.

You're not wrong. I told her the same thing... For that price I would've flown out and drove it back.

Best part was they delivered it a week late, and she had no way to get to her new job for that week...

Ive had that happen before. Promised our customers delivery one week and the trucker shows up 2 weeks later. Apparently the trucker hated his life and quit right on the spot. Parked the truck in a lot and walked away.

That is messed up, I don't care how much your life sucks, finish the job, then quit.

I've shipped classic cars before. Kansas City to LA cost me about $800 on an open car carrier. The vehicle weighed about as much as the 3rd gen Tacoma does now. You can ship closed car carrier for higher end things and it could as much double the cost. However, whomever said it cost 3 grand to ship coast to coast has some misinformation or a Fraud Waste and Abuse report seriously needs to be filed.

Thanks. I appreciate the links. I put in a request for a quote with uship. My truck is due to be delivered next week so just wanted to see if it made sense to have it shipped or travel.

I checked uship vs my site that I use (which is a paid subscription) and it looks like uship is roughly 200 higher from the zip codes i looked up.

Where are you shipping the vehicle from/to?

Sorry didn't see this over the weekend. Im back in the office now.

Shipping on my website says $500-$550 (roughly $0.55 per mile)

If that $589 is with fees included, seems to be right on but if they are going to throw another $150 of fees on top, little overpriced.

I'm thinking about just flying. I can get a flight for $150 and about $150 in gas back home.

Seems like if you have the time, a drive back home is a good way to get acquainted with the truck.

I'm looking at flying out of Ontario so my wife doesn't have to drive my kids with her to drop me off in la. The money savings isn't worth my kids driving my wife nuts

I can only go certain days too. Flying out on Thursday driving home Friday.
