Still waiting to hear back. The service writer is off for the rest of the week but he gave me his personal cell in case I have questions. Last I heard, they were test driving to try and replicate the problem. I don't know if that means it was following a repair or not. I'm getting ready to call them right now in fact. I work nights so it's hard for me to keep contact with them during daylight hours unless they leave me a voicemail.

Sounds like you need a new dealer. My dealer has a hand full of vehicles off the lot. I bring my wife's 4runner in, they give a a 4runner to drive. Tacoma goes in, I get a tacoma.

Also the service writer is on vacation? Someone better stand in for him. Making me like my dealer more and more

A lot of trucks can pull that on a flat surface. It's on wheels. Hardest parts is getting it moving. After that it doesn't take much to keep it rolling. There is a difference between pulling something slowly and towing. If there was any grade involved it probably wouldn't of been able to handle it

Stoping almost 300,000 lbs would be extremely tough....if you weren't moving only 2mph. The weight alone will created enough drag to pretty much stop itself moving at that speed once you let off

I skipped from page 1 to page 7....sorry but did you tow in 5th or Drive?

    I'm pretty sure that's a no-no.

Update: Toyota has assumed my vehicle and is very concerned. They have had several issues like this occur exactly as I have explained it.
They claim it is the stock crankshaft sensor overheating. So they are holding my truck another couple days (week and a half total if I get it back on the day they say) to install a new crankshaft sensor.

Despite all this, I've been very very pleased with my dealership and the service writer involved. Communication has been great

I think a lot of the hatred towards the 3rd Gens are a bit of an over reaction. You've got non-owners who hate on them because they have nothing to lose; no dog in the fight. Then you have owners of the 3rd Gens who hate them because they dropped $30-40k on them and are upset they have problems at all. Both are understandable, but people have to remember, the vocal minority will always be louder than the tens of thousands of happy customers who have no complaints and have no reason to comment on issues.

No hate at all directed towards the 3rd Gen. I am and always will be a Toyota fanboy at heart. My first vehicle was a 1987 Toyota Pickup pass down to me from my dad at 15 years old. I inherited it at 150k miles, gave it back to him with 250k miles and it still ran like a champ until the day he sold it. If anything was to ever happen to my 2nd Gen, I'd stay in the Toyota family, but I think I'd be more inclined to go with a 4Runner. Love the way they look and people seem to be very pleased with them. I went from a Ford Escape to my DCSB Tacoma, and while I really like having a bed, I miss being able to toss things in the "trunk" and have them protected from theft and the elements.

Anyhow, back on topic. OP I hope you get the issue worked out. I've had a couple encounters with my dealership recently and was very impressed with how they handled the situations.

My gals 2016 4runner power and transmission is 100x better than my tacoma. The only thing I don't care for is the front end bounce/squish when applying brakes. Also the brakes are super touchy on the runner.

They had my truck for 2 weeks to replace a cracked coolant bypass valve. Not ideal but the service department did a great job finding and diagnosing the problem. The issue was with getting replacement parts from Toyota.

As I stated in a previous post, I have been very pleased with the service department (especially the tech named John) at the Enterprise, AL dealership. My truck was not bought from them. I took it to them the check the rear door window seal as it didn't fit right. I really didn't really notice it until I read about it on TW. Another dealership told me this was "normal." The tech said if I could leave the truck overnight he would check the transmission fluid level (must be initiated by a customer concern such as to hard shifting, etc.). I also found out about the transmission issue on TW. I left it yesterday (4/21) and picked it up today. The new seal fits great and the tech told me the transmission was 1 quart low and he reset the computer. The ride home is around 35 hwy miles and the truck ran great (actually has run good from the git-go). Now I read about the possibility of the crankshaft senor failing and leaving you stranded. Sh!t, Sh!t, and Sh!t x 2! Oh well, next time I'm in the area, I'll ask the tech about that.
