Prince passed away???

Saw a billboard on the freeway today that was purple with white letters that read:

"I only want to see you laughing in the Purple Rain"

Wish I could have taken a picture of it but thought it was a pretty nice subdued tribute.

I remember in middle school I had a music tech teacher who would often play albums while we were working in class. One of the ones he played most often was Purple Rain. I had heard it all before then, but I think I heard it enough times at that point to appreciate it.

Bowie and Prince aren't really my type (they are both kind of "out there" for me, I know, I'm boring), but I can respect the talent.

That's fine. Not everyone likes him but I don't really see the point of coming in after someone passes away with flippant remarks? Whatever floats your boat I suppose?

 

Who DO you like, Travis? Cuz I guarantee there's a fuckload of people who don't give a shit. The difference is that most people would see no value or benefit to go on a thread about somebody on that list who died and crap on the floor.

Last night I decided to go for a long drive in my little 95 VW cabrio convertible & crank Prince. It was a more neighborly thing to do. Full moon & top down it was awesome!!

Not bashing those who liked prince. But I need to know was this guy so great of a performer or is he getting attention for some other reason? He is getting more media exposure than janet jackson's super bowl slip.

 

The media is going to do what the media does.
He was one of the best artists of our time. Not just a performer, I wouldn't actually characterize him as a performer so much.
He had unique artistic ideas and he attacked them with integrity.

I got tuned into Prince when I was at a boys reformatory in indiana back in 1984."1999" had just came out and it really helped me thru some difficult times.

Most people don't realize what a musical genius Prince was. He had more talent in his pinky finger than most anyone out there.
Very, very underated guitar player.


If I'm not mistaken...his very first album when he was 19 or so, he played all 27 instruments. Recorded, produced and mixed the album.
I havnt listened to him much since then but the dude was an absolute musical genius.
