Yeah , I'm not doing a traditional pegged connection . The GRK screws will be going through the face of the brace , through the mortise and tenon joint and into the post then likely plugged .

The original idea that was put forward was to just lag the braces to the posts and beams with a 45 degree butt connection but I though this would be a bit more elegant plus its a lot more rigid because the braces can't really move once they are housed by the post and the beam

yep, mortise/tenon much better than a simple butt joint, ..and you'll probably feel much better about it after you're done... any reason not to both glue and screw, ...or is it convention to not use adhesives in these cases?...

I guess you could use glue I just hadn't considered it as its not used with a pegged connection

Put in wood chips and landscape fabric instead of grass (which was dead) and built new planters for a low water use drip front yard and a lot less maintenance. Now I just have to go buy more plants and sago's for the empty planter to fill it in, I had a Camry when I started remodeling this house and I don't know how I lived like that before, this truck is indispensable now.

I was just thinking... added insurance, and it'll probably seal the joint from water intrusion, etc... then again, i'm assuming this is for a permanent structure not meant to be easily torn down at some future time?...

Glue it. It won't hurt. And will be stronger than any non through bolt or peg with that much surface area.

My lumberyard has a 1/2 dozen for sale on the shelf if you really want one , not sure how much Canada Post would gouge for shipping

Dude, yeah, I could not find anything like that online. Found a 10-inch only at Woodcraft, and it mentioned a Bosch bag that is better, but only holds 2 blades. PM me price/shipping info if you would.

...might be a good use of a polyurethane glue like gorilla glue (or similar)... or maybe titebond 3, if that's suitable for outdoors?..
looks good oz! ...will it be paint or varnish?... ...also, that must be some primo real estate, ..that's quite a view in the background!!!

Time bond 3 continues to amaze me, I glued up some spoons and other kitchen things with them, and absolutely beat on them, leave them soaking in water and they hold up just fine. The open time is shorter but that shouldn't be a problem on that assembly

...I thought the open time on titebond 3 was longer?... anyway, I use it too, ...leaves better looking glue line on light colored wood...
