There is quite a bit, the better stuff is towards the Dubois side, with union pass being the highest concentration of trails. Lots of stuff on both sides really, were it not for a 5 mile stretch of closed road back in the Gros Ventre one could wheel all the way from Kelly to Dubois or Pinedale. Alas USFS knows best...

I was perhaps a little liberal with the use of the word "road", these are all 4x4 trails and some of it I would only try on the trusty old Polaris sportsman. While your allowed to take plated trucks on all Wyoming ORV trails that aren't width limited it doesn't always mean they'll make it. I pre-run almost everything on the 4 wheeler to see if a truck can make it.

Right now I have nothing on the schedule for the middle of August. Are there dates that work for a majority of Wyoming members and our neighbor state forum regulars?

Mid-late August is best for me. I'll have toad survey dates soon and the last one is in August. After that the new baby toads are big enough to survive a weekend without checking on them so I can take time off then.

August is the wheeling month haha that's when I'll start due to my job working on the weekend mostly. So yea I'm sure we can do something around then.

They gave you good advice. The other thing you want to do on a fairly regular basis is "roll on the throttle" from a lower speed to a higher speed. For example, if you are in 4th gear at 1500 rpm don't mash on it but just slowly give it gas up to a reasonable rpm. Say maybe 3000 rpm or even higher once you get some miles on it.

Rings get set with heat, the more heat you put into them the better at the beginning. It doesn't take very many miles at all to set rings. The way I've always done it run through 1-4 sequentially and then let the engine decel on its own. Do that a few times and your rings will be set just fine. I never understood the keep it under xxx rpm for yyy miles.

Sorry to crash the party; but I was wondering if there were any scenic 4x4 trails near Thermop. The wife's father passed away this week and we decided to stick around for a couple of days to help were we can. I'm not looking for anything too crazy as the rigs got to make the 2100 mile trip home.

Also, I'm not the typical asshole from the east coast. I graduated high school from Riverton, went to college at Casper and my wife grew up near Guernsey. I'm on the east coast by circumstance not out of an endearing love of the sea, or the people.

Not much that I'm aware of other than wind river canyon itself but that's highway. I would head towards Cody vs worland to find something. At least there are hills that direction.

Not so much asking for him but for me. Do they still close the Sinks Canyon switchbacks? I worked on that road project about 10 years ago, and I went the whole way with my dad a few years back but that was in the summer. I'd like to go back in there again, but idk how it works now that it's paved to the split once you've dropped off the top past Frye Lake.

Yeah it's closed part of the year to vehicles and open to snowmobiles. It's getting close to being open I would guess. Late May early June, depends on snow pack

Damn. I bought a Tacoma cause I envied all the older guys I grew up with in Oregon that had them and I always liked Toyotas. I specifically bought an O/R for going and checking out cool shit. The most I've done with it is blast through flooded well sites in North Dakota. I've gone with friends up by Dubois quite a bit, but I really like the Winds by Lander, even if it's fairly easy access once the weather is good.

That would drive me up the wall. Unbolt it and reset the alignment on the splined steering shaft

    Stupid question incoming.

There's a small auto show in Sheridan today. And last minute I decided I want to bring Turd instead of the Subaru. Is there any reason I couldn't drive my truck there and back with it's clicking CV axle? I'll only be mall crawling so no 4x4 will be necessary.

I'd think you'd be fine. On that note, are you sure it's the CV?
