Stock/Butt Extender

I am looking at buying a Remington 1100 from my uncle but the stock is about an inch or two too short. It is a beautiful gun and has great wood work on the stock. I was wondering if anyone knows of an extension I can get for the end of it? Preferably something that screws in and not a sleeve, but anything would be nice.

There are countless aftermarket stocks available for an 1100. Most of which are quite reasonably priced. Is there some reason why you're particularly attached to the original stock?

 

The gun is my uncles and it has great original wood work on it that looks awesome. I would like to keep it original if possible and not change it out.

 

That's fine. Then you're stuck either putting a thicker recoil pad on and/or putting spacers between the pad and stock. Spacers and pads can be found in nearly all thicknesses and they can even be stacked. They probably make them precut for an 1100 but every stock is a little different so they rarely fit quite perfect. I would recommend getting the sand to fit type and have a smith put it on (he can order it himself) or if you're handy, you can DIY.

I've never really heard anything bad about any of the products available. I think it's going to come down to preference more than anything. Earlier you mentioned it's an inch or two too short. Be aware, an inch or two is A LOT when it comes to length of pull (LOP). Typically, when it comes to LOP, people talk about 1/4" adjustments. Do some research online on how to measure LOP, what average shotgun LOP is, check your shotgun, be aware of your height/arm length, and make some choices from there. Make sure you know what you want. No spacers or pads are permanent, but that doesn't mean you want to F it up the first time because you didn't know any better then turn around and have to redo it.
